Something I've always wondered in regards to racing is why nobody ever does it differently. Sure, people slightly switch up their strategies, and maybe nobody changes running evenly because it's what works best. But I'm curious to see what would happen if an elite runner raced a 5K as though it were an interval workout (20 x 200 hard, 50 easy, for example). The idea came to me a few years ago when I was doing a Tabata workout and ran what was possibly the fastest mile of my life. Thoughts on this?
