9 miles is pretty long. My local 10K trail run required everyone to carry at least 16oz of water.

I cannot believe the number of responses this dopey, depressed millennial was able to generate from the couch in his mom's basement.
carry a bottle in each hand and get yourself an arm workout.

Carry one of those short water bottles, and empty or no water in it.
The cool fad for the tree hugger trail guys are these "cup free" races. There may be an aid station at mile 5, but there are probably no cups. Hence they want everyone to carry their own. I see guys all the time blowing off the rule and nothing happens. Generally the top finishers rarely carry anything.
Does anyone actually believe the IDIOTIC Trail Race is a real event?
I had a half marathon that had this requirement. I brought a 5 hour energy bottle.
I'd be willing to bet the RD could care less if you carry water or not; what he does care about is some runner wandering off course, dying from dehydration, and the family suing him afterwards. As someone else posted previously a lot of trail races are going cupless so if you do elect to go without you will be on your own until the finish.
I have done lots of trail races where they have "required" this.
If they are actually enforcing it, just start with an empty bottle and "lose it" right after the start.....just make sure you go pick it up after you finish.

The city workers arent coming along a couple days after the race to clean up all the litter runners Leave behind like they do a road race. Have a little respect for the planet.

Duct-tape a 40 to your right hand. Beer has water in it.
Leave no trace....... wrote:

No, the aid station workers clean up the used cups. If you worked at an aid station like I have, you would know this.
Not allowing disposable cups has nothing to do "saving the planet". If an environmental impact study was done, it would show the most environmentally friendly solution is to use disposable cups.
just follow the rules. Rules are there for you and EVERYONE else. Show respect to all those others running first before you try to be selfish. Go Get a handheld water bottle. Race rules are race rules. If you run in college and they require you to wear a race bib, are you going to tell them that you run during practice without one and you don't feel like it?
Have you considered a fuel belt?
OK, carry a baggie of water in your paw. Tie is shut.
If you don't want to carry it, empty it as soon as you start, and put the baggie in your pocket to throw out later. No littering!
I agree, a silly rule.

The top trail men wear half tights and tuck a 10-20 ounce bottle in the back (or the front). You can get bottles (Nathan, Simple Hydration) at your local running store. It's not a big deal.
Wrong. Those are the middle of the pack trail men. The top trail men tuck a flask of scotch in the front of their half tights. It's called scrotch for a reason, and it is a fantastically refreshing warm beverage when on a trail race, road race, at home, or on a long drive.
Attach a couple of bladders to the front of your shirt where your breasts are so they look like udders. If anyone says anything to you about them just "moo" back and invite them to take a sip from your udder. I promise you the race organizers will get rid of the water rule.

Get a non clear bottle...keep it empty (or with a splash of water if you want to follow the letter of the law). Carry it in your hand at the start, then stuff it in into your shorts (will make your junk look YUGE). When you finish the race 45 minutes later, whip it out to hold across the line.
Get a non-clear bottle. Fill it with LIQUID LSD. You will be ready for anything the moment you cross the finish line.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
