I took one week off after track and started training for xc. After 2 weeks I had pulled my calf and so I did therapy but continued to run about 30 mpw. The calf healed so I started running higher mileage and got to 50 mpw before I had a weird pain in my shin. I did't think much of it until it progressed for about 7-8 days and I went to the doctor and he said its probably a stress fracture in my tibia and I should take 6 weeks off and merely cross train.
I will be a freshman at a d2 xc program in the fall and I can't fathom taking 6 weeks off as my entire season will be ruined. The doctor said I could try 2-3 weeks of rest and start running but he wouldn't suggest it.
1. What should I tell my coach?? I just gave him an update a few weeks ago saying I was good and running well, I feel he'll be pissed as he's given me a ton of scholarship money and now I'm injured.
2. What are your thoughts on the rest time? I am thinking of doing 3 weeks no running (but pool running and biking on the road) and then start running on 100% grass.
If I take 3 weeks off that puts me at August 1st so I'll have 14 days of running before I arrive at school and do a 7 mi team time trial.
Also, any suggestions on how to get in shape fast once I start back running, how do get back up to 60+ before october
