Gerry Lindgren was once on pace to run sub 1:30 in the 800m, but he passed out at the 790m mark.

It was far from the most hostile thing on these boards. (See recent posts about Montano, dozens of posts about Lagat, everything ever about Rupp...)
Will you re-instate it, or at least explain was was wrong with looking at a period of dramatic improvement?
Cause the moderator deletes WAY more stuff than I would. I'll restore it. What was it called?
Rojo, you have got to replace the mods, one in particular. They (he) indiscriminately delete(s) many humorous and insightful threads. I've got an endless amount of time this summer, and would definitely be up to replace these (this) clown(s).

Anyone have a full list?
I know the following have done it.
Jim Ryun,
Jim Spivey
Alan Webb
Edward Cheserek* (Kenyan)
Craig Engeles
Andrew Arroyo
Garrett O'Toole
Drew Hunter
Anyone else?
Jim Spivey did not break 9:00 or 1:50.
Their names are Craig Engels and Andres Arroyo.
How about Jim Stintz of Wisconsin and Randy Jackson of Iowa in 1976

Spivey was right at those marks, but don't recall if he actually broke them.
If I recall he did ~50.5 400, 1:49 or 1:50 800, 4:06 true mile, and was right at 9:00 or just under for 3200/2 mile.
Jackson was not as fast at 800. 9:00 for 2 mile, maybe 1:53 for the 800/880. Got DQd at state meet in 880 for shoving a guy out of the way. Likewise, wasn't Stinzi more of a distance guy?

How about Jim Olson of Kirkwood Mo. in the mid 60s.
I meant Jim Stintzi and Jim Olson are not on the list.
Jogging my memory a bit from that earlier era. Sub 1:50s were pretty rare, and usually done by an 800/880 specialist. But remember a 1:50.6 in the 880 would effectively convert to sub 1:50 for 800.
Anyway, not saying that these guys actually did it (sorry offend your original question rojo), but here are some guys that may have done it back in the day. So maybe someone with better search means (track and field news) or memory could do it.
John Gregorek (4:05/8:51 in high school, so 1:50 wouldn't be out of the question).
Brent Steiner (similar stats to gregorek in high school), and his teammate Steve Smith, from Kansas. They were probably close to1:50. I don't think Tom Graves from Illinois broke 1:50, but he was better in high school than Spivey until the state meet their senior year.
Thom Hunt, Ralph Serna, and those fast southern California guys?
Corrected, o/w the list is complete, assuming you are referring to sub 9 for two miles.

What about Craig Nowak? He ran 8:49 and 4:06 I think, I'm sure he could've broke 1:50 if he went for it? Also, Ahmed Bile?
NOPE

I trained periodically with Jeff West (and JG), back in the day when I was with SMTC, I believe he was a 1:48 to 1:49 half miler in HS. Another runner on the team (many years post his Prime), was Dennis Carr who I also believe may have cracked 1:50 in HS but I'm not sure. Interestingly, no one knew Dennis was a huge 800 guy till he walked away from us all on a set of 200's. I then looked him up and found he was ranked higher in than Jim Ryun in the 800 one year back in the early to mid 1960's, ran in the 1:46 range when at USC.

Super outdated.
Bile never broke either.
It's surprising how many sub-9 guys never even contest the 800. I would think the US HS sub-4 list could be doubled if some of these runners took a crack at 1:50 during the season as well.
Hope Brandon McGorty can join the club next year. Only has to run 2 seconds per lap slower than his brother in the 2-mile to get it.
