Wheating only started running late in high school and ran 3:30 in his first European 1500m, along with 1:44 in his first Euro race, all after his senior year at Oregon. Webb already ran 4:06 as a sophomore in high school and 3:53 mile as a senior. By the time he was 24 and ran 3:30 (I think he could have run faster if the pacers had been better) and 3:46.91 and 1:43.86, he was two years older than Wheating when the latter ran 3:30 but had also been a professional already for five years.
