How have we not all unanimously settled on Bekele yet?
I am surprised not a vote for someone like Bannister, or a Jesse Owens. Hard to pick one, and lots of greats on this thread.
I'll add Michael Jazy. Always something appealing to me about him, especially that he (I read this somewhere I can't recall) would generally run 15k through the woods. Sounds lovely.
It's me, Tim.
But I still don't know who ok7272 is. Doug?
These are all marathoners but you knew they leave nothing on the road and not make excuses

Solinsky. Who knew the sub 27 10,000 would be the twilight of his career instead of the start of greatness.

How dare you bring up this game. My hatred for Colin Kaperdick was ignited then; what vindication at seeing what he's become! BSU's loss set college football back a few years.
Colin Kaepernick is THE greatest quarterback of all time. Without question. Only a fool would fail to see the doom that will now be descending upon the rest of the NFL.

Haile.
1) Initially, lopped unbelievable amounts off the 5 and 10K WRs.
2) WR ability combined with HUGE kick. How often does one see that? In this respect, he had the misfortune of being immediately followed by Bekele, another incredibly rare individual who could manage both. But how many others, before or after?
2) When challenged (Komen, Tergat, Hissou), repeatedly RE-seized his WRs. And how often does one see THAT?
3) If he wasn't one of the happiest, smiliest, most-likable athletes, he was an AWFULLY good actor. And in his track prime, he raced a lot. Week after week, lining up (with a HUGE smile on his face) against the best Kenyans, all looking to take his scalp. And VERY rarely happened.
4) His "disappointing" (in my opinion) road career "only" included 1 (I think) half WR and 2 marathon WRs !!
It was REALLY fun being a fan when Haile was in his prime !!

Definitely one to miss. However I feel like when Kamworwor moves up to the marathon, he will be very similar to Wanjiru
