So is the hobby-jogger who sprints out to lead the first 200 yds of the marathon is "strengthening his character" by "going for it all"? I always thought he was show-boating, pretending to be someone he wasn't.
Like the hobby-jogger, these guys had no chance of winning, or even of running the standard. Everyone knew that. Everyone. By going out fast, they weren't "going for it all." They were simply faking it, pretending to be who they weren't. And in they end, all they did was serve as rabbits for the guys who did have a chance.
