You are so wrong.
Millenials will lay to waste what the previous 5 generations built.
It's the soccerization of America.

Vaughn & Johnson were the early leaders for women and even in a slow pace.
Where did they finish? 7th & 8th, 3 seconds behind 6th.
The nature of the 1500 is much different than the 10K examples you gave. The steeple's nature of sighting barriers is different altogether and leading is not the negative it is in 1500s.
It is VERY tough to lead a 1500 in a fast pace, in a high caliber event, and be a factor in the end.
CALLED IT. JUST WATCH THIS RACE.
And for the men the early leaders were McNamara & Avilla, in a solid pace (58), then joined by Yorks. They finished last, third from last, and fourth from last. Leading rarely works in a quality 1500.
EAT YOUR WORDS, OLD MEN
Nice call. Glad I "heard it here first."
Hahahahahaha!
Centro and Andrews both under the previous trials record (Steve Scott's 3:35.15 from 1980).

The field is almost identical to last year's race, which was won in 3:37. Centro closed in 1:48, Andrews in 1:49, Manzano and Blankenship in 1:50.
That race went out slow (about 2:03 at 800m). If this one starts out honest, say 1:58-2:00 at 800m, then it will probably be won in 3:35 or faster, because any move Centro makes, Andrews will match, and those guys will battle it out for the win.
This 2:10/3:48 talk is ridiculous.
Looks like you pretty much nailed it.

So we live in 2016. Everybody running today grew up with participation trophies and support socialist/commie ideals. That means that they don't work hard or take risks to be great. They run safe (read: scared and weak).
They have no balls, much like our current president. So what we will see is a bunch of weak minded, emasculated men jog a 2:10 800m split -- probably slower and finish in 3:48. NO ONE WILL MAKE THE A STANDARD WHO DOESN'T ALREADY HAVE IT. The pace will be a joke and the usual Centro, Manzano, etc. will take the win. You heard it here first.
3:34 winning time, looks like you were wrong BOOMER... Think it time to go back to the vitality Dr and get some more testosterone depositories!
millenials FTW
So now that the race is over ...
We see the guys that took it out to make fast, finished way back and didn't hit the standard or even a seasonal best.
Leading can work for good runners, not mid packers.
I don't give them credit for trying.
Looking back we will just look at the results.
My grandfather was one of America's top competitive riflemen in the 1930s. He won numerous national level trophies at the historic, prestigious, Camp Perry National Matches.
When I inherited a footlocker full of medals and trophies I found not 1, not 2, but 122 PARTICIPATION medals among the lot.
This was the 1930s. During the height of the Great Depression. The formative years of the "Greatest Generation." And yet they found a way, amid economic turmoil and material scracity, to make and hand out PARTICIPATION awards in nearly every event he competed in.
Just thought some of you revisionists might want a dose of reality.
And you were wrong. I said it here first. 2:10 for 800, you don't know jack.

Yikes! That's nice. Completely wasted on us, but still nice.

Come back here and admit that you were completely, humiliatingly wrong, OP. Prove you've got something resembling balls.

We might, but that's unimportant to the athlete. You don't get many shots at an Olympic team. Only once every 4 years. That's a long career for most, especially borderline guys, who have to get on with their life at some stage.
I look at the Mens's Discus. The winner went and two other guys not in the first 6. They had qualifiers, so second and third were out.
There's an old line "Never up, never in". If you make the trials and just run to place, and not make the team, then why go? Its not the nationals. Its the Olympic Trials. A silver or a bronze, non qualifier is a disappointment. Going for it all is something few get to do in their lifetimes. They may not win or place but they will have strengthened their character.
I get what you're saying. But likely its because you are a less than mid pack guy, who's aspiration would be to get an invitation for a state meet. At the top its different.
I can see you not enjoying watching Prefontaine at all. Likely you'd be telling him that no one will remember his windmill tilting. A real athlete when he's backed into a corner says its shit or bust.

Is there any American baby boomer who has a faster 1500? Maybe a small handful. The rest are tremendous disasters. They hate America and,
of course, Baby Jesus.
Running out front KNOWING you are fodder for others is dumb and certainly not brave as some like to think. Brave is making a push for home from mid-race, trying a mid-race surge that may hurt or break some, starting a near sprint from 600 out...... Leading for a lap or two when you KNOW you now have an out to give up later is not brave. It is a race. Get to the finish line ahead of others. There are no style points or consolations.
