Sadly your boy Jager does not munch anywhere nearl enough PEDs to compete With Go Go Magic Hot Sauce Kemboi!
His Sprint last year with 300m to go at the 2015 World Champs, remains the dirtiest thing I have ever seen!

Its dumb troll posts like this that make this place suck.
Why didn't Jager go with the Kenyans when they began their sprint on the backstretch?
While a race or two could be good, here the scenario:
Jager trains with Huling and Bayer at altitude. At Rio, he controls from 3 laps out and wins, running under 8:00.

Can you imagine if Jager got gold? Letsrun would permanently crash. Complete unrecoverable hardware failure and meltdown.
It would be the first time since 1964 that Kenya did not get gold (excepting 76 & 80 when they didn't participate). And every Olympic year except 84, Kenya also won a second steeple medal. Complete dominance.
Of course, the nice thing for Jager about the Olympics is that unlike the DL, he only has to face 3 Kenyans at most. But they will be their top 3.

Thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to do that so if I don't medal, you guys can call me an idiot for racing too much, peaking too early, and choking when it counts. Your friend in running,

I assume you won't check this anymore but you made me laugh, thank you. It's nice to be reminded that athletes are people too, and some of them have wry senses of humor. Good luck in Rio.

I'm willing to bet good money that isn't Evan Jager. That poster is registered as "Evan@EvanJager.com" or something.

Evan, you better listen to the OP and throw in some extra races in the next few weeks. You could spend that time focusing on properly peaking, or you could spend that time flying around the world, getting jet lagged, and running some random races that don't fit into your training plan.
If you want an intelligent discussion , then don't post a nonsensical argument.
The point is not to fly all over the world and ruin ur training.
The point of the post is that doing no racing up until the olympics is NOT the best plan. Race simulations in practice are great. But the real calousing that one needs to deal with the extreme discomfort of the steeple, especially at 8 flat type of pace, must be had by a couple of tune ups. This isn't an either / or argument. This is a discussion of the high value of including some racing in the next 5 weeks to augment and optimize full preparation for the olympics.
Yes he thought he peaked too early last year. But going with no racing from now on might swing the pendulum far in the other direction.
Best of luck to him either way!!
Fair enough. I guess it just has to be "agree to disagree":
- You (and probably others) think (For some valid reasons) that he will do best in Rio if he does some races ahead of time
- Evan (and some others) think (for some valid reasons) that he will do best with a month off from racing and only focusing on training.
Rounds are on August 15th, finals on August 17th.
Reasons for racing ahead of time:
- Develop race awareness
- Develop mental toughness better than training alone
- Best way to gauge fitness
- Build confidence
- Less risk of burnout from only monotonous training
Reasons for not racing ahead of time:
- No disruption of training due to travel
- No disruption of training (assuming a race isn't ideal replacement for a workout)
- Less risk of burnout from over racing
