I believe the steeple was added to the Olympics after XC was taken out of the Olympics. The name itself, "chasing the steeple" is borrowed from horse racing when Englishmen would race over hill and dale from one church steeple to another.
Rather than wasting time introducing people before the lkng distance events why dont they just do it after it starts? Maybe they could show more of the race then? Or did i just buy them more commercial time?
