I agree that what she did was outrageous. I could never imagine myself getting so uncontrollably emotional that I could not run, walk, or even figure out what to do.
Why did they let her husband and daughter onto the track? He was walking along carrying daughter on the home straight. That added to the "freak" show atmosphere. He likely said something which helped go directly to the finish.
He also said something to her right after the finish similar to 'stop crying now'. To his credit he was totally calm.
NBC loves incidents like this. So does the media. Alysia might get on talk shows and such for this.
Sad that this incident may get more attention in the US than the other great athletic performances at the trials. You can bet that if Alysia keeps running we will see NBC replay/mention this over and over in the future. (Sort of like we hear about Uceny falling down, and they never mention all her wins)
Then her interview after added more.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRtjOrIK06s
She says "My entire professional career has been a farce, basically"
"The IAAF is a corrupt institution"
Fans don't "care about if you win a medal or not"
"they care about (you as???) a person and what you bring to the table."
they care about "how they can connect their life situation to yours" "That's why I am here".
She set herself up well to appear on TV talk shows...
I do not know about you but, as a track fan, I care about people striving to run fast and win medals. I could do without all the personal drama and emotion.
And to think there has been this much crazy drama in the us women's 800 trials. We will have even more non-running related things to look forward to when we have the mixed gender 800 meter women race in Rio

Regardless of whether Montano clipped Martinez, Martinez clipped Montano, or any other permutation - Alysia Montano once again was completely inappropriate and ridiculous in her theatrics.
Any respect I may have had for her in the past flew 100% out the window. What an absurd, selfish display. Yes, I realize it's probably heartbreaking to be in her position. But you didn't see Martinez acting like an idiot.
Alysia Montano is a disappointment and embarrassment to our sport.
My primary problem with Montano -- among many -- is that she detracts from our sport. Imagine watching that 800m final with a good friend who isn't familiar with track and field. What is your non-track friend going to think watching Montano's theatrics? I mean it's embarrassing and reflects poorly on our sport. We look like emotional drama queens. In fact the whole falling, crying crap (anytime it happens in track) is embarrassing to me. Just stop. It's not about you. If you fall, get back up (sans drama!!) and finish with some self-respect. Don't act like a dang 5 year old!

Shhh, the adults are talking. Back to the kids' table with you.
Good one... I thought the weight of the flower caused her to repeatedly drift to the outer portion of lane 1. It was so pronounced during the latter stages of the race (we all know how heavy that flower gets the longer we carry it) that this combined with a puff of wind catching the large surface area of the flower caused her to gently shove the other runners in an effort to maintain balance. Clearly valid grounds for an appeal !
She is so full of BS with that last statement of hers.
And I would agree.... she set herself up well to appear on tv shows like "The View" and "Ellen DeGeneres".
She can spend the next 4 years talking about getting screwed by the IAAF, the Russians, and what its like to be Uceny'd.
Is there any doubt that a book deal will be coming soon?
Agree..
Alysia ran an erratic race. Good opening lap to keep distance from the scrum however she ran off the curve for some reason?? eventually enough to allow a pass on the inside (as well on the outside)??? Then ended up in lane 3? My lame opinion..I think she was spent and realized Rio was 150 meters too far. Even the normally tepid Craig Masback commentary pointed out this clear tactical mistake during the race.
How is Montano's career a farce if she ran clean? I think Savinova and company would be the false actors?
Alysia,World Champs are next year..oh..but tell your sponsors that..
ps. AM..the IAAF is at the bottom of the pile when it comes to corruption in sport.

Not sure what she was trying to accomplish and both the broadcast crew and crowd wasn't sure what to do.
Going back the Brit 400 meter runner who limp home with his dad at the Games. That was really genuine. This was awful
Derek Redmond (the brit you are referencing) was actually physically hurt and unable to finish under his own power. Montano was just being a drama queen. 2 very different situations as you acknowledge.

What is a cuck, and why don't they like comments about women's hair?

So Redmond prepared poorly and injured himself, and Montano had a flailing athlete crash her out of the race... and __Redmond's__ theatrics are OK for you and the Nike ads you play late at night?
How is it racist? Unless you're the racist and know how you would use the term.

The most doped up 800 runner in the last 2 years has been Alysia Montano.
What happened in women 800 metres final happens every week at high school and college meets April & May over the last 250 metres. Don't waste energy being mad at one 800 metres runner or feeling sorry for another 800 metres runner.
I was there -- lots of fans clapped when she first got up. But many of us stopped immediately once we realized what a lame dramatic performance she was putting on. Many of us were like, "just get off the damn track if you're going to keep sitting down to cry!"

Agreed.
Sanya Richards Ross didn't pull this stunt.
Nor did Brenda Martinez.

This.
It's almost like in Montano's effort to stay out of trouble.... she got herself into an awful lot of trouble by running so tactically poor.

Plus she was totally empty at that point.
"Blame Brenda" troll is going for second espresso shot/crack pipe hit, so expect more victim-blaming to come.
Rocks will roll, trolls will troll.
Brenda and Carlos clearly feel that Montano is at fault:
