This.
The only thing Montano did was run just far enough on the outside of lane 1 to give Rogers enough room to think that she could pass on the inside. She didn't have enough room to make a clean pass and gets tripped up running into the back of wilson, then stumbling into Martinez. Rogers is the one who initially bumped Martinez who then tripped into Montano who then fell.
Rogers seemed to have caused this who debacle and Montano is taking all the heat for it.

Completely agree. I don't get it. Has she been known throughout her career for clipping other runners from behind and causing pileups? Is this part of a pattern?
I watched her interview and have no problem with how emotional she was. I don't see somebody deliberately lying about what happened. She was emotional. So?
On the other hand, I don't think that her description of where she was on the track--lane 3--lines up with the evidence. It's possible to empathize with her and yet not agree with every single representation she makes.
Looks like Ludlow did not run through the finish line and Williams did.

I think part of the reason for the hatred is how she acted in the minute following the trip.
If she is injured that is one thing but I don't think I have read anywhere that she was injured - just acting out. Get off the track if you want to pout but don't put on a one minute show for the final 150.
If she was truly injured so she could only hobble, I apologize but I don't think so.

Hahaha darkest in the incident gets the blame and lightest can do no wrong. Proven by how the reverse opinion was common with Engels running into Shaq from behind.
Feel bad for Martinez.
Not a lot of reason to be very upset at anybody.
Absolutely should NOT re-run the race.
She is well known to be not be a not so nice person amongst the woman in the USA national level. Her run from the front and die tactics are annoying to USA fans that feel in a international level championship lost her medals she could have won regardless of the dopers who beat her. Here "look at me look at me" attitude bothers people a lot. Like the huge rose or flower in her hair or running way too pregnant (8months) in a usa trial situation is not only questionable in taste. Many who have lost babies to miscarriage it infuriating to risk the health of a child and again simply another chance for to say "look at me." Bmart has already proven herself on a international level both in one off races and bringing home medals at the International level.

Watch the reply. Am I the only one who think BMART got WAY to close to the leaders on the inside. Had a misstep causing her to clip Montano.
She pulled an Uceny
Wilson was in the lead, but not on the rail. Rogers on her inside. Wilson said she felt a clip. So BMart is riding too close, clips Wilson, and slides out a bit to the right, just as Montanyo starts to panic and realizes she must get to lane 3 to have a chance of kicking.
"I started to go at 115," Montano told NBC Sports' Dan O'Brien. "I had so much in me. We rehearsed it a thousand times ? and I was there. Brenda tripped, and she darted out and stopped ? I thought I was going to be able to dodge her, and I just didn't."
(Thanks to USA TODAY Sports for sharing.)
Is this her 2nd or 3rd variation of what happened?
Do any of you guys actually run competitively?
What happened has happened thousands of times before so get over it.
Perhaps we should argue about the Zola Budd/Mary Decker Slaney incident 32 years ago as well.
Get on with your lives and go to work like real people.

Stop trying to make it an issue of race. Watch both races and it is pretty clear that Engels was cut off in his race while Martinez was ran into from behind during her race.
When you have 7 women who all currently are in 1:59 flat shape and who are all vying for the top 3, they are going to be bunched the whole way and crashes like this are bound to happen. If Wilson was in 1:56 or 1:57 shape, then it would have been more strung out and spread out but, unfortunately, she looks like she has regressed this year. The 3 who made it get to get crushed by dudes and dopers next month.

So has Montano. Faster PR, more medals.

"- White Pony, registered" ... hilarious!
It's an issue of hypocrisy.
Shaq moved over the course of several strides; Martinez suddenly veered when she clipped someone she had run up into.
Engels ran several strides behind Shaq then swung into his backswing in a desperate move. Montano was immediately cut off by Martinez's veering/slowing, as she described right after the race.
Engels was put into the next round. If this was a semi, Montano would have been, too. Martinez would be out, since tripping over the heel of a runner holder her line is the rear runner's own fault.

Have any of you ever been clipped or clipped someone in the kick of an 800? (Have any of you people actually ever run a race??)
In 15 years on the track and roads, I have had two falls. In neither case could anyone involved definitively state the chain reaction involved. Do you think that Brenda can here? No.
Montano's immediate quote to Dan O'Brien actually reflects the video perfectly. Brenda ran up on Wilson, clipped her heel and tripped, bailed into Montano and caused a fall.
Look at the video. Pause at 1:34. Martinez has her arms up trying to catch her balance while Montano is in perfectly normal form a stride behind here. Sorry if this story doesn't suit your 'Brenda good, Montano bad!' narrative, but that's what happened.
Runners get tied up in track. This isn't the first time, it isn't the last time. Montano was stupid, Martinez got screwed, but there's no way they rerun the race. And, I agree with that.
This is where the USA's pure merit trials can prove damaging to its medal chances. Other countries might have someone like Martinez locked into the Olympics based on ranking and performances over the past year or two years. Then trials is really about selecting the second and third participants.
Most of us enjoy the pure merit system in the U.S., and this is what can result. Of course some will argue that "merit" is negated in an instance like this, but I'd disagree. Again, runners get tied up in track. As much as I loathe Montano's theatrics and her it's-all-about-me attitude, I don't for a second think she did anything malicious. She had no intent to take herself and Martinez out of the race. Yes, she raced stupidly and it ended up a disaster. But, it happens in this sport.

If you can pause it at 1:35.3 you can see Montano's knee contacting Martinez' left foot.
LOL.
Pause a second before that and you see Martinez pinwheeling her arms because SHE HAS ALREADY TRIPPED from running up on an clipping Wilson. (Exactly what you are accusing Montano of, except that Wilson was running straight and Martinez veered.)

Uh, no. It is always the trailing runners responsibility to avoid contact, not the lead runner. If you want to pass, it's your responsibility to GO AROUND the lead runner. It's not the lead runner's responsibility to get out of your way, even if they did have eyes on the back of their head.
That is EXACTLY why Brenda has responsibility for initiating this. She up into Wilson and tripped.
Brenda is getting a lot of credit here for being "classy" but of course she knows she had ALREADY TRIPPED when Alysia hit her trail leg.
Alysia, on the other hand, just had Brenda trip/veer/slow right in front of her. I'd be annoyed, too. If Brenda hadn't had a panic attack and tried to press into Wilson's back on the bend, we wouldn't have this problem.
I'm a huge Brenda fan, follow her much more than I do Montano, but this is simple stuff when you actually watch the sequence. Nothing happens until after Brenda has clipped Wilson, WHICH WILSON SAID HAPPENED.
