Starting to change my mind. Now I can see the argument that Montano advanced too quickly and initiated the contact with Martinez. I don't think she was "running wildly" or any such exaggerated accusations. It's a race. She started to die, lost some places, found some energy to try to get back into the thick of it, and...perhaps caught up too quickly.

Hilarious. When that no-name ran into Shaq Walker's trail leg in the men's semi you were all blaming Shaq. Now it's the opposite and you blame the runner who is behind?
Literally this board just blames the darkest person in any situation. It is so predictable. If Murphy had stepped on Jock's heel you'd all be screaming about how bad Jock is for being in the way.
You do realize that the "no-name" was 4th in the finals?

Here is a post-race interview with Martinez:

Martinez clearly taking the high road and being gracious towards Montano. Not wanting to blame her in this interview. But clearly she was clipped from behind and it was Montano who was behind her.
I don't think any major final has ever been re-run for a mid-race fall or collision.
They could have re-run the 1996 Olympic 1500 after El G went down and 10 runners had to jump over him giving Morceli a clean break from the pack.
Martinez stumbles as she moves up outside Wilson, and from there things go pear-shaped.
I can't put it on Montano, although her histrionics were tiresome.
So what's next on the agenda?

https://twitter.com/NBCOlympics/status/750130824977100801Stop the race clock at 1:35.1 - you can see Montano's right knee come into contact with Martinez's left foot.
At 1:35.3 you can clearly see Martinez's left foot inside of Montano's right knee.
Montano clearly fouled Martinez.
This is what I see as well. When Martinez initially stumbles she pulls her rear leg forward as you do when clipped from behind.
at 1:35.6 Montano clips Martinez' heel causing her to lose her balance. Then Montano further barges in trying to go between Martinez and the leader who were both in lane one. Montano made the initial foul and complicated things by moving in and finishing Martinez off.

I think everyone is letting what happened after the crash cloud their judgement. From watching the replay, the first thing that happens is Martinez stumbles while trying to pass on the outside. BMart flails and loses a step, but stays on her feet. Montano, who is behind BMart at this point, can't react to the sudden deceleration and goes down after colliding with Martinez.
Everyone is calling for Montano's head and saying Martinez got screwed, but to me it looked like BMart caused the accident.
watch the Martinez interview. She clearly states that she was clipped from behind. Still fresh and upset after the race. A post race interview is not a place to launch a conspiracy----you state your beliefs, and she did. She was clearly fouled from behind.

I think this is right. There is no one in front of Martinez at the time. Wilson is unperturbed in lane 1. In the interviews, it also seemed like Brenda is genuinely still shocked and mystified as to what happened--she just knew it was from behind, whereas Alysia is already defensive and saying look at the replay, that she was positioned perfectly, executing her plan. When, really, what kind of plan has you leading the first lap under a minute and then letting yourself fall back to step it up again in the last 150? She said she was trying to stay out of the fray because she knew the girls would be panicking and going nuts the last 150 but I think that quote is one of those times when you're just describing yourself and your own state of mind and attributing it to someone else. I feel for her for the losses to dopers but she needs her medals from those times. I don't think she was going to make top 3 regardless of this fall. Martinez, on the other hand, is really a victim of bad luck. Geez, 4 years of training. Best of luck to her in the 1500.

But I get it. This is the message board filled with negativity.
I'm sure she didn't do it on purpose. Give it a rest people it's a race stuff happens.
Sucks that it happens but it DOES happen.
She doesn't owe any of you an apologize and I'm sure she'll apologize to BMart.
I mean of course she didn't do it on purpose, but it was still a stupid move
Ajee Wilson at the start of her interview says she "felt a clip" near the beginning (~8 seconds in) of her interview ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XW4Xy8-Oq4g ).
USATF just tweeted a ruling of "incidental contact":
We've been informed the officials have declared that the contact in the women's 800 was incidental and there have been no DQs. The 30 minute protest window is now open.
BMart and Montano do not agree on the contact. I think I will go with the account of the one who isn't delusionally hysterical.
When do people suggest a re-run? On the same day that Martinez will be running the 1500?
This is over. Be quiet.

Of course Montano didn't do it on purpose. But yes, she's an idiot.

Super ironic that Martinez actually did exactly what you're criticizing Montano for: stepping right on someone's backswing.
Martinez has already stated that "someone clipped me from behind". The incident had nothing to do with Wilson who was beside Martinez on the inside. Montano clearly ran up INTO Martinez FROM BEHIND.
if martinez clipped wilson, why didn't wilson even flinch? Ajee was buttersmooth the entire incident. No sign of contact on her.
Martinez' fall only makes sense if martinez was clipped from behind, and that's what martinez says happened.
I saw the results and I was wondering if Montano was running pregnant again.

So, I like Montano. She's great. But, she raced really poorly.
First, she allowed herself to be passed on the INSIDE on the back stretch of the last lap. This happened b/c she led the race from the outside of lane 1 for ages. What was she thinking? B/c she got passed, she ran back up everyone and clipped BMart. If anyone should feel aggreived - it's BMart. Montano was in the wrong. If she had owned lane 1, she would have run her typical race of controlling it from the front. Stupid.
Exactly. Why in the hell was she running on the outside of lane one while leading and then gets passed on the inside and then runs into Brenda causing the crash. She tucked and rolled for no reason. She was about to die down the homestretch anyway.
After falling why didn't someone kick her over dramatic ass off the track. Walking and falling to her knees 5 times while crying. This is why track & field isn't taken seriously.
