Martinez was moving up on the outside and had a clear path. You'd think she'd be safe in such a position, but Montano was wobbling all over the place, from lane one, back and forth to the outside, unfortunately stepped on Martinez, and I'm surprised she didn't take out the whole field. There's no question in my mind that Montano was the cause of the problems.

What this changed was Martinez's chance to be in the top three.

No, Ajee Wilson did not want to go. She was just there because she had nothing better to do on the 4th of July. She was not trying in the last 50 meters - not at all.

Boris has been too busy logging heavy interviewing to begin his interview taper as yet, but now he has made the team, he'll begin his interview prep in earnest.

Watch the replay on Facebook. Martinez was the first one who tripped when she was trying to get past Wilson. Then Martinez flailed to regain balance, which tripped up Montano. Not at all excusing Montano's ensuing theatrics, nor NBC's choice to show her entire sordid final 200m. However, it looked like it was Martinez who initiated that train wreck.

I've watched it several times, and can't figure out what the heck made Martinez trip. Shortly before the massive fall, it appeared that Martinez and Rodgers had some contact as they both moved up on Wilson. It may have been a continuation of that jostling? Weird.

Did any of the women protest?

Click into the article "Montano's Olympic hopes dashed". They show the fall in slow motion. Martinez never touched Wilson. It was Montano who ran into the back of Martinez. Clear as day.

Watched the race on freeze-frame several times now. Contact definitely was between Martinez and Wilson at 1:34.8. I just can't see EXACTLY what happened because the pause gets a little blurry. Wilson does not react to the contact at all. Looks like Wilson's right leg was back while Martinez's left leg was forward and that's where contact occurred. Definitely no initial contact between Martinez and Montano.

Martinez pops up with arms flailing at 1:35.4. First contact between Martinez and Montano at 1:36.0. Montano stumbling at 1:36.3. Ludlow looks affected by 1:36.5. By 1:36.8, Martinez is in lane 3 and Montano looks to be falling.

1:37.5 Montano is nearly upside down, Martinez looks like she is being struck by Montano as she has a grimace on her face and her body is in a weird position. Ludlow still looks OK. 1:37.9 Montano is on ground and Ludlow has stepped over her. Martinez is stumbling into a more outside lane. By 1:38.2 Wilson, Rogers, Grace and Ludlow are all clear of Montano and Martinez is in what looks like Lane 4.

I would just like to raise awareness of giant pterodactyls and how cool it would be if genetic engineers could bring them back, instead of mammoths.

Is this where I sign up to say dickish things to runners who failed to make Th Olympics? Because I'm that kind of guy and I am given to understand that I can feel better about myself by posting here in such a way.

no, based on the hd, that's wrong. at 134.8, martinez and wilson are both fine. it's in the tenth after that that something happens. and based on the timing of the wilson and martinez strides at that point, its pretty unlikely that it was martinez-wilson contact. or unlikely that it was contact that would have affected either of them. but around the same time, martinez's trail leg very clearly contacts montano's lower leg/knee, despite montanos claim that she 'didnt touch anyone.' 95% chance this one is on montano.
