700 meters
The difference is that, whatever the critical distance may be, Gatlin could train to be faster at distances above that point, whereas Galen couldn't ever be faster at distances below that point.

What are you talking about? I can handle you no problem, but you leave my man Galen out if this! Is that understood buddy? Yeah, thought so...
daaamn
Sure he could get faster relative to where he is now. He absolutely could not get faster than Rupp above that point given any time limit. You also don't think that Rupp would get faster if he trained full time as a sprinter?

Rupp has run a 1:50 800m. Gatlin has a 44.3r relay split from his UT day. Both are from years ago. I doubt Gatlin is running 1:50 and obviously rupp isn't dropping anything sub say 49 or so. I would expect 600-700ms to be the split point.
Given Gatlin 1 year to train and a 10 million dollar incentive, 800ms might be interesting.
Rupp closed in a 1:50 last year at World's to get 5th in the 5k and has run 3:50 indoor in the mile
I think he can run 1:48 for 800m and possibly around 49 for 400m
Gatlin maybe a 45 flat, but there's so much of a different in aerobic requirements from 400m to 800m
Exponentially more from 400m-600m vs 600m-800m, and considering Gatlin is a better 100m runner than 200m, he's already regressing as the distance goes up
Having this said, I would say 550m
What have I done? This stupid topic keeps gathering equally stupid responses, each worsening my shame for authoring it. At least try to mention giant pterodactyls now and then.
As for doping, if they are doped it has to be equally, i.e. same % to the gills, from 0 to 100.
id say about 600 metres.maybe even 500.
327 meters
573 meters exactly.
No distance. Gatlin stops well a head at 400 meters because nobody cares about anything longer than 400 meters.
paradigm shift in sprinting due to this peptide. Why did....
Only certain athletes used to get
very fast using steroids ,if lucky that high igf-1 levels being produced in cells due to them.
Now can gaurantee high levels regardless and speed it offers no matter pterodactiles
There is a big fall off for sprinters from 400-500 meters. That's one reason, nobody has officially broken the 1min barrier.
In a 500 race, Gatlin, mainly being a 100/200 guy would start tying up around 360 and Rupp would catch hI'm in the last 20 meters to win in about 1:04.

I wonder how close Ferguson Rotich came last year at World relays?

So, all of your posts are like ultra-ultramarathons... ?
Ex Jock Strap wrote:
It would probably be about 800 meters. But it could be about 600 as the previous poster suggested. Gatlin is huge for a sprinter and could be huffing and puffing and crawling down the stretch against Rupp, who would feel like a 800 race is warm to start up the system.
Too long. Gatlin would die quickly after just 300m like most 100/200 types built like him. 500m.
Gatlin is 34 years old and I have no idea His fitness.
Galen is in true marathon form right now, but it really depends on what 5k shape he is in. Maybe he could run a 400 in sub 50
But I don't think Gatlin could go much faster than 48.
Equal distance really could be under 500 meters
If Galen can run a 1:18, 600, I think he could beat Gatlin through 600.
Under that is getting close.
about 3 meters.
It can't be more that 350-375 meters.
At 400, Rupp wins by a second. By 600, he wins by 10 seconds. I doubt Gatlin could run faster that 2:10 for 800.
