more like Kenyan runners dominate 10k...
If you mean "don't win" by your use of dominate, then yes they do.
It's more interesting that most of the "non-Kenyans" are now so intimidated they've regressed in terms of performance.
his is one of my biggest pet peeves, I understand that they are American citizens and are even serving our country, but WHY are they allowed to compete for America. It is just the idea that anyone can just gain citizenship and suddenly compete for a country. They are cutting off TRUE americans like Derrick etc from competing
Makes me sick. The Army should be ashamed of themselves.
Shame!! If they are going to join the Army to get a shortcut to citizenship I am ok with that but they should wear the uniform and do the job - not run WCAP. Dan Browne is a sellout.

They're American now, so we should support them. There's a system in place and they followed the rules of that system. Besides, "true" Americans were 30 seconds back in 4th and 5th.
If they are willing to die for the country (They can be called to war at anytime) then they deserve all rights of any other USA citizen.

What is wrong with them competing for this country. This is a country of IMMIGRANTS. Most of the Kenyans who come to America to run come as teens and stay for the rest of their lives. Ergo they are now American. And although they take spits away from native born American they help raise the level of competition. Remember US running before lagat, it was abismal. Him along with guys like teg and Ritz helped raise our running to another level.
This is why the USA is such a great country. We bring in immigrants who push us to become better. This is why we have the world's largest most innovative economy. This is why we have the most influential culture in the world. EMBRACE immigration. They hell push our country forward and make sure the native born citizens never fall into complacency.
You realize derrick wouldnt be going to rio regardless right? He doesnt have the standard and didnt hit it today. If you insist on not taking any former kenyans and only using "true americans" instead, you would end up with an olympic team of galen rupp, jonathan grey and bobby curtis. Doesn't exactly inspire much confidence for rio does it?

Hey moron, you are aware that any American citizen can represent the US in international competition. If you were a "true American" as you claim, as opposed to a true troll (5/10 btw since you got me to reply) you would know about the 14th amendment which has been interpreted by the courts to mean that any citizen of the US born or NATURALIZED in the US has all the right of citizens of the US. There are no classes of citizens that distinguish between citizens by birth and citizens by naturalization. Gaining American citizenship isn't a sudden thing for naturalized citizens, it takes years.

If they complete the requirements for citizenship, they deserve the rights of all Americans. Lagat never served in the armed forces and he's as American as these guys.
I don't think that this can be emphasized enough. So much xenophobia these days in a country that is basically founded on the idea of being a haven for immigrants... I'm sure that if you were to ask Billy Mills how he felt about foreigners coming in and taking Olympic spots away from Americans he'd have some interesting things to say.
Dan Browne is the real hero here. West Point grad, former 10,000m Olympian, coach of the Army's WCAP program. He recruited and coached these two to excellent performances today! Truly awesome. He deserves a lot of credit!
Dan Browne was SALAZAR'S first test subject. No shocker Dan's athletes seem to be making teams as well like he did.

+100%
Only native americans should be allowed to run for the US. Keep all the sons/daughters of European immigrants, or any other citizen from "constitutional technicality" out of this.
Don't recall this Derrick guy being native american though.
he means people who have lived here less than 50% of their life.LIke our b-tier athletes going to their paren'ts homeland a month before trials, sad, really sad

My position covers all those cases (and many more), so I don't understand your point.
The amount of racism and bigotry on this thread is sickening. Thinking you don't deserve something because you where born on the wrong side of a line even though you worked years for it is such a sad viewpoint to have. People like you are the reason Donald Trump and his shameful views are popular... Congrats to Kipchirchir and Korir, they more than deserve it and have earned it!
