Alas, I'm not ready this year. I think I have one stress fracture in my knee, and another one in my piriformis. But I will tempo it.

I have a race tomorrow and I am going for a sub 9:50 3k. I recently ran a 3k in 10:01 but I have run a 3k in 9:55 before. Their is another guy in the race who has beaten this barrier several times but he normally goes out very fast (68). Should I run right behind for the first lap or just stay a couple seconds back? Another option I guess could be go through in 71-73 and stay nearby him? Any advice for pacing through the race to beat this barrier?

Reported.
What's the point of coming here and bragging? Go away! We're not interested in your times. I can't stand such insensitive people like you!
I'm changing up my strategy for when to take a walking break so I can refuel with a sandwich. If I don't bonk hard like last year right at mile 2.6, I should definitely finish. That finisher's medal will at last be mine!!
Four on the Fourth in Elmhurst, IL ! Sorry, not a 5K.

Just stay below threshold and you'll be fine. Science tells us that you can only walk at threshold intensity for an hour.
Hey now, I'm racing 8 miles, not 5k.

*unfriend*
I'm already carbo loading.
No self respecting town in the great United States of America would measure out a running race using kilometers. I'll be running a FIRECRACKER 4 mile like our founding fathers intended.
Hot dogs afterward..... wrote:

This!
I'll be foregoing the kilometer measured race in my hometown to get in 17.76 miles and then throwing back some PBR tallboys while watching Top Gun until I pass out.
Yes! Red, white and blue shorts, singlet and hat ready!
Not sure how serious all these posts are, but there are some real hobby joggers lurking around trying to pick up some knowledge on this forum . . .
I've been getting some mileage in whenever my baby allows it. When I can, I have been pushing her around the track on the jogging stroller. Hoping that when the 4th rolls around I'll have some extra strenth without the stroller. May be able to sneak in a PR.
Hey all you elites and elite wannabes are you doped up for your next race?
I'm ready for a Fourth 5k at the beach -- 7:30am goodness :-) I'm guessing winning time on this totally flat out and back course will be 17min by a high school kid, maybe a little faster.
I'm just doing one to see where I am before HS XC season.
My 5k is 4 miles. Isn't that to long to race?
Im in my rest phase all summer. After having my BMI down around 27 at the end of my last cycle that went from Thanksgiving morning until the 25th of November I want to be careful not to get stress fractures, so there is that. Probably maybe go to bed a little earlier this year so I can gobble gobble an MF PR next Turkey Trot. Either that or find a down hill race.

The American “elites” are getting ready to be dominated by East Africans on the 4th. Likely 1st American but 14th overall...
