If Symmonds wins the trials 800m once again, it will be incredible news.
Having watched this race many times over the past 20 years, my guess is that it won't likely be faster than 1:44. If the winning time is 1:44 or slower, NS absolutely has a strong chance of winning.
Boris hasn't had a great year (post indoors) and Brazier is a total newbie.
GO SYMMONDS!
no
cheer up
i posted elsewhere of nick in '12 in reply to :
"he did but he didn't
he started off too slow which he woud regret as he lost drafting because too detached & got little in race as too far back
he didn't get much drafting that race
he also ran wide in last bend, costing coupla tenths which again he may not have had to lose if running quicker on 1st lap
he had too much energy in last 100 meaning he saved too much in 700m but 100m left not enough real-estate to get it all out
800m is modified sprint
all you do by going out slow is throwing away chunks from final time as shown much more in 100/200/400
he had no speed lack as shown by a 47-low/mid in lane 1 in windy dublin before games & he tweeted back then he expected to be "46+" shape at games
no chance
too slow a start, lack of drafting as result & wide bend running
he was capable that day if running a more aggressive race of ~ 50-flat &
1'42-low"

He's saying that with his non-perfect body type he can run 1:42 clean. Rudisha has a much more perfect body type for the 800, therefor it would make sense that he can run a couple seconds faster than Nick without drugs. However, there are other athletes that don't have the same near-perfect body type that Rudisha has that have run as fast or faster than Nick. He is insinuating that those athletes have doped.
Forget about his body, I am amazed that a mid-47 400m sprinter can that fast in the 800m. I've spent a career talking about the requisite speed to run fast in the 800m. I didn't think an athlete you could run-47 could run sub-1:44 unless they were equally as good in the mile like some of the world class milers who drop down to the 800m. Most of your top 800m runners are capable of running a 46x 400m and some 45. The race were Nick ran 1:42, I think he went out in 50 flat, based on my formulas, he should have been dead at 600m. - Nick is unique.

He comes across as a real bad team mate and major princess in the new WOW and this interview. I was never a fan of NS and the media he's been putting out leading into the trials isn't making him look good.
Which WOW was that?

Good laugh from above wrote:As usual, the LR crowd, a bunch of no-talents and never-will-be successful toadies are reading too much into a statement from a successful competitor. It would be the same as Rupp stating he's a skinny white kid who managed to run sub 4 clean.
What a pack of idiots.
It's different, because Symmonds is quoted as stating a specific number that is not his PR.
In your example, you said "sub-4," which would be completely accurate if stated by Galen Rupp.
That's why it's different. And the concern by LRC-ers stems from a genuine concern for accuracy, which is an important thing.
Read the thread, genius.
Typo.
He corrected it.
To all of you saying Symmonds has "no chance" of making the games, what odds would you actually give him?

GO SYMMONDS!
Boris won a DL 800m race. What are you talking about him not having a great year?

Only American man to win a distance DL this year. Maybe ever.
nichacoddhff is a moron.
Nick's 400m PB was with a standing start, in lane one on a cold and windy day. I'm sure he could have run 46.8 in better cons.
Im not the type to say he has no chance, but I'll say 10% maybe. It depends on a lot though
I could coach him into the 46's
Its in there.
It would take me 3 weeks tops

thank you
he expected quicker in '12 final as stated above
explain this to coach-lombardi above

Has he scratched yet?
Probably needs to maximize his visibility first but HE WILL SCRATCH.
He's publically on record saying that tomorrow he will test his injured ankle and decide if it can hold up for the trials.

Its strange to consider how heavy Symmonds is, especially when most elites are doing everything they can to stay as lean as possible. It would be an interesting experiment to see what he could do over a season if he were to drop down to like 145.
He's about the same size as Peter Snell was.
I watched the workout, and then I watched Brenda Martinez do 8 x 1000m followed by an all-out 400. I didn't catch what the rest was when Nick and company were doing their version, but Brenda's average time per 1000m was actually faster than Nick's.
Is Brenda training too hard, or is Nick training too easy, or are they both training the way that's best for them?
