Honestly, I'm just a little surprised that Brazier and Murphy both signed with NIKE given how much the Berian dispute was documented within the running community. I just would have thought one of them would have considered going to a different company. I suppose NIKE probably put forth the best offer and money is a huge motivator. I would have thought what happened to Boris would make a young athlete think twice about a company like that.

Or they are vastly smarter than a drop out and have better agents than someone riding off his brother's name. -
or they may help with a thyroid problem.....

So much for the bad PR angle. -

Not really what I was getting at. I just figured that an athlete signing a pro contact within the last couple of days might be affected by what happened to one of their fellow competitors. Just surprised is all. Not saying they don't have good agents and that they didn't sign wonderful contracts and that NIKE doesn't have great resources. They kept Berian out of competition for a month right before the Olympic Trials and the reductions they put in a lot of pro contracts were well documented. That is a turn off for me. -
Why are the bitterness to reductions? If an athlete isn't performing well, it's unlikely they're of much benefit to their employer.
It seems to me that it's the norm rather than the exception for athletes to remain at the top of the heap for multiple years.
Being paid according to your value seems reasonable to me.
What am I missing? -
We all would go to Nike too if they offered us the most money? I don't understand why it's even a question. Yea reductions are reasonable Any agent should be able to make them acceptable

Ouch. -
They probably used the recent publicity to get a better deal from Nike. We have no idea whether they have reductions in their contracts, going forward I would expect fewer of them.

It's more than money. Nike has the global reach as well as the resources.
The other groups are running at high school tracks while Nike has it's own track as well and trail.
Not everyone is a bumpkin from Colorado who gets rolled over in a contract.
Plus every athlete/agent thinks he's smarter than the next guy. If you look at the NB "bonus" they were pretty small actually. -

If someone offers you $ 150 K ( speculation) over 4 years who cares what happened to Boris. Nike is still a hip company
