I wish Flanagan was running the trials 10000 or better yet the 10000 in Hengelo on Wednesday with Defar, Ayana and others, she would run a blazing time, probably break her own 10000 on a track record, she may even be in shape to run under 14:40 on the track, which would break Huddle's 14:42 American Record.
It took three pages of posts, but someone finally almost got it. Shalane is one of the best examples of one of the biggest things wrong with our sport. That of course being the financial incentive and pressure to "move up" to the marathon. And conversely, the disincentive to stay on the track. The track 10,000 is her event. It was, and still should be. She could be a monster at 25 laps by now. It doesn't take a genius to look at her career, how she runs, her skill set, and her progression to figure it out. Of course she could and would be a medal contender in Rio. On the track. For 25 laps. And not just a medal. Quite possibly the yellow one.
