How many athletes in the Olympics? I didn't think so.

Magness should be criticized for his dweebish tendencies, his vocal fry speech pattern and his twitter retweet crusade against "doping." He should be more grateful for the doors opened through his affiliation to Salazar. He is not where he is based on his blog, book or 4:01 high school mile. As a coach, he knows more than a lot but that is not saying much.

You bring this up on every Magness thread, and your point gets stupider every time. No one is surprised that an assistant track/XC coach doesn't make a huge salary. Getting paid $43,000 while you're earning your Ph.D., though, is a pretty good deal for a grad student.
And more than that, his coaching job gives him serious credibility for his online and print publishing ventures. It looks like he self-published "The Science of Running," probably in a deal where he keeps 50% or more of every copy sold. How many thousands of copies do you think he's sold so far? Multiply that by $10, and you're talking about a good amount of money for a young single guy. Then he can use the book and the grad program to get himself invited to high-level coaching clinics. I'd guess he gets paid a couple thousand each time to go talk for a few days. Over time, that adds up. The dude understands how to market himself, and your trolling for yucks about his salary shows how little you understand what he's doing.
Meanwhile, in a sport that's having its worst doping controversy ever, Magness was smart enough to get out in front of the story early. Even I thought his tweets about Dibaba were pretty risky...and then her coach gets caught with drug-filled syringes, and Magness comes off looking like a genius.
Sorry, haters. Magness has outplayed you at every turn. He's got plenty of money, a growing national reputation, and his athletes' names all over the Houston T&F record book. He's played his hand perfectly. You can criticize him all you want, if you want to look like an NOP fanboy or an EPO apologist.
Hi Steve. Banged any of your athletes lately? Oops, I meant any more of your athletes.

Also, why can the timing company claim copyright on race times? They aren't creative works. Can none of the runners involved put their times in running logs without permission? It's no different than putting numbers in a phone book.
That's just the thing, you can't take a number from the phone book and publish that info. You are required to "discover" that info yourself. So I guess if it is just like the phone book, you would have to time it yourself? Or maybe you could ask each athlete for their times and then publish that. Maybe publishing the times within a recap of the race would be considered fair use of it is in context of some sort of analysis or narrative.
That is assuming that it is analogous to the phone book.
Boy you really brought them out of the woodwork, didn't you? Nice job.
He has had a couple of good 800 guys. Brian Barraza is a solid 29:04 10k/ 13:56 5k guy at UH. The distance program plays second fiddle in a big way to the sprint program at UH. Magness has done quite well with the talent he has at UH. The distance program was nonexistent when he arrived at UH.

Should he be criticized for accusing Aden and Dibaba on twitter?
