This will be the first one he finishes and he was under course record pace as late as 100k.

What do you mean? He's part of the new breed. Haven't you heard, running has changed the last 1-2 years. They're more competitive than the old fogies, totally different mindset. Trucker hats, Hoka heels, and belt buckles for everyone! Yee haw!
https://vimeo.com/ondemand/mutrunnerJust 8 years ? Dude started at 14 with support !

This will get more "kids" into 100 mile races. Apparently you don't need a lifetime of training to be good at 100 miles.
JW finally rolled into the aid station at 93.5 miles. Still in 7th.

I mean 6 . of solid an consistent aerobic development
Sage is 11th place now. He really blew up after a great start today. Bummer.

How old was that Sammy guy that won the Olympic marathon?
Miller wasn't on irunfars radar. They had him as other notable men, not one of the favorites.

Well, it looks like he has completely blown up now - back in 11th.

That only proves my point. He is not a 100 miler and he can't accept it. Stomach issues are half the game. Some guys can't handle it. He DNFed his first attempt and has faded badly at best in his second. How many times is Sage going to keep bashing his head against the same rock and ruining his potential at distances he is more suited for?
Hermansen in 2nd place, has a mile to go but is walking according to irunfar
I'd love to see ol' Robert Young try his hand at WS 100. If I was race director I'd invite him to run it just to see how bad he really is. There's no way you can bs your way through the WS.

If you blow up, it wasn't a great start. It is a foolish start on which you went out over your head. Not a bummer, but a comeuppance for someone who doesn't know their own ability.
I could run the first lap of a mile race under 60 seconds and then completely blow up and stumble home in 5:05. That wouldn't be a bummer after a great start, it would be the natural consequence of idiotic pacing based on my current level of fitness.
For some reason Sage thinks he should contend for the win at Western States despite never even finishing a race of that distance. Sage is stupid.
Sage is probably not a natural 100 miler, but I think he made it far enough where he could win it one day if he works at it. He's obviously not a Rob Krar who speeds up at the end of a 100, now there's a natural 100 miler dude. Too bad about Walsley looks like he's more of a natural 100 miler dude too, but the debacle today can only mean he will come back with a vengeance next year like Krar did his second time to do something really special.

He looked good at 93 miles. You never know what is going to happen in these races. It makes Miller's performance look really good. Everyone else is blowing up. Not him. He looked great at the end.
Miller did look really good at the end. Ran a great race. A smart race. Great young talent there.
Sage should try a 200 mile race next.
Browning in 3rd, has a mile left to go.
Sage has the physique to run sub 15hrs but not the experience. Also stomach issues, heat, etc. With this and some races more he could even win next year. His pace now is normal so his issues are slowing him down.
*not normal pace i meant..slower
