Why do people keep saying that he's "had injury problems". At Oregon he literally had one injury, but that injury just happened to last for 8 months. Since being out of college, I haven't heard once that he was injured. The dude just can't run right now, along with the rest of the OTC.

Yea, try watching the race before commenting. Being too cheap to get a flotrack membership is not an excuse for lying.

Powell > Rowlands by a lot.
The best coach for OTC is already in Eugene.
Rowlands was a tough SOB competitor himself and just can't get these guys to compete. Rowlands also has never really coached; Vin just wanted someone he could control. That being said, he has done a marvelous job with Mead and a couple of the foreign athletes and obviously Nick when he was there. This whole group should retire though.
Saying that Row can't "get these guys to compete" can be taken different ways. Greer was always a competitor in college, and frankly at a higher level nationally and internationally than Fleet. (Greer was 6th at Olympic Finals in 2012). So Greer's got all the game you could want.
When Nick left OTCE, the physio staff fell apart around the same time. It appears that Greer got repeatedly reinjured in that window and it took OTC a long time to get the right hands-on physio resource back in place. Not sure why: maybe the budget got shrunk, or the number of athletes in Row's stable ballooned beyond manageability, or finding the right physio for an aspiring world-class club was more difficult than expected. Too bad for Greer and Fleet. But just because they didn't make the 2016 Trials doesn't have to mean their careers are over. Maybe it's less about finding blame and instead looking for new opportunities and methods to get them positioned for brighter days ahead.
I agree. Fleet and Greer are still very young and have good potential. So they hit a rough spot the past year or so. They can still likely improve. They should push on and continue at least until 2020 if they can find a way to do so (financially and motivationally). Maybe they need a change of scene. Maybe it is another issue(s). They know for sure.

True, you can see clear as day at 1:53, 2:03 and the finish that it's pouring out buy looking at the pushes and the rain falling in them. You have to be an idiot or a liar to think it wasn't raining.
Of all the Oregon alum milers in the pro ranks you got Centro, Wheating, McNamara, Winn, Gregorek, Fleet, Acosta and the Oregon Nike guys like Casey, et al... "at this moment in time" the guy running the best heading in to the Trials is Colby Alexander! Whooda thunk it........

I think you mean Centro....not even close after his last 1500.
We all know Centro is the top American miler. I think the point was that, the fact is, he's only run 3:37 high to this point whereas Alexander has run 3:36 low and every other Oregon miler past and present is slower at this point.

I don't think anyone denies Centro is the man but it is very interesting that Alexander came out of nowhere and, other than Centro, is better than all the other Oregon A lister milers this year. Gregorek and Winn haven't done bad either since graduating. Looks like maybe if you're an Oregon miler and wanna continue on after graduating you may wanna look to leave the state!

Not every good collegian is going to make it as a pro. On this board if a guy fails a bit at the next level, he's trashed.
In NCAA football and men's basketball, about 90-95 percent of the athletes don't make it at the next level, including some collegiate superstars. Most fans of those sports understand this.
In track there is not much of a difference between being a pro and a collegian. In football, everyone is stronger, faster, bigger, and smarter in the NFL and only some people adjust. In track if you run 3:40 in college, it's no different to running a 3:40 as a pro. Except maybe easier, more pacers.

It's easier in a sense to run 3:40 in college because if you are that good you will usually be on the rail the whole time with little traffic. To run a 3:40 as a pro you are usually (but not always) in a pack with a lot of jostling and vying for position. In that last scenario, a 3:40 is much harder to run than 3:40 on the rail.
Having said that, 3:40 guys are uncommon in college. This was an exceptional year in the NCAA but some years see 3:40 at the top of the time charts and having a shot at an NCAA title. As a pro a 3:40 gets you absolutely zilch.
