Just wondering?
Or is voiding a contract just for runners?

Just for runners who bring little to no value to the company without gold medals or world records. Runners unknown to the general public aren't worth paying.
People will still buy Lebron shoe even if he stops playing bb, nobody I know ever buys a shoe because an elite runner wears them. There probably some lesser known bb, fb or baseball players that contracts become less or voided if they don't play.
He keeps his contract for the same reason Michael Jordan has an indefinite contract: he is recognisable and brings in 10x more profit than all of nike's sponsored track athletes combined. To 99% of the world, who is Boris berian?

And you know this, how? Work for Nike?

No. You're just effin stupid.
Lebron is going to get paid $30 million per year after he retires. He's going to get $30 mill and not play anymore. That's insane.
Allyson Felix got injured in Moscow, did not run at all for 4 months and didn't race for 10 months, I believe.
Did Nike void her contract?
Nope.
You know Michael Jordan is still being paid by Nike.
No. If Lebron gets injured kids are still going to buy his shoes. Outside of Jordan, he and Kobe make the most money for Nike out of any NBA players.
Your post reads like a T&F athlete should get the same contract structure as Lebron James, which is completely idiotic from a business standpoint. And Nike is a well oiled business.
No runner, even the most marketable, hold a candle to what Lebron James makes for Nike, and their contracts should reflect that. A huge majority of Nike's runners are an expense to them, with a select few actually making them money.
If Mo Farah gets injured Nike does not void his contract. The same can't be said for a guy like Andrew Wheating.
I mean adidas is still paying Derrick Rose so...

Has anyone tried to do this in T&F though? Nike should have a Farah and Rupp shoe, as well as Pre. It would be cool if they started to do that because even if people don't know who they are they would look them up and find out.
There are no reduction clauses in LeBron's contract.

Go talk to a 100 high school track kids and count how many can name Rupp or Farah. Nike has done some named spikes in the past (kenndy's come to mind). They don't move the needle. Heck who buys bolt's spike? How many people buy Sketchers with Mebs name on them?
Maybe someday we will have a runner who is good enough (need to be a medal contendar/chance to win) and has enough charisma (i.e. Rupp could run 30s faster but it wouldn't change the fact he has zero personality in public) that people would actually want to wear his shoe. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?

How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
