How much money should the parents of that boy who was eaten by a gator get from Disney?

If I were Disney I'd just offer em $1mil and then, if they decline, just keep them in court FOREVER. Disney can afford both options.

I read an excellent op ed piece from a Personal Injury Attorney from Florida that the family would have a very difficult time winning in court. Trying to summarize it it into 2 reasons... It's a wild animal in its native habitat, and act of god if you will, even if it is on Disneys property, it's the animals natural habitat. Second main reason, although it was not specific to alligators, the sign said no swimming, and the child should not have been in the water. If the family had followed the sign and kept him out of the water, the accident would not have happened, and Florida is very tough on finding defendants liable when someone doesn't follow the rules.

Granted, there is a 0.0% chance this ever gets to court as Disney will settle this as quickly as possible. No way is it worth going to court for publicity's sake alone.

I doubt EVERYBODY knows that. I live on the opposite side of the country and have never been to Florida, and I wouldn't know they are literally everywhere. I mean sure I know gators exist there, but I (probably like the kids parents), would not expect them to be at a resort. I mean how would I know having never lived or been there?

That being said, they should have followed the no swimming sign. But I'm just surprised that the sign didn't say anything about alligators given how common people say they are there. for that reason, they probably will get a lot of money.

It was not Disney's alligator and Disney did not ask the alligator to come onto its property. Disney owes the family nothing.

Disney posted a no swimming sign, but the family ignored their sign. The family owes Disney money for Disney's expense in cleaning up the mess created by their son's dead body.

I am disappointed the alligator didn't eat Omar Mateen instead of the kid.

I've met toddlers before. Based on my experience with these tiny assholes, I'm not so sure that the parents shouldn't owe Disney some money for the service.

I live in Florida. The overwhelming majority of transplants are pretty oblivious to alligators and their prevalence when they first move here. A tourist from a non southern state which has alligators roaming in the ponds would likely also be oblivious.

Disney has already taken care of this. This is not going to be a liability issue.

This is a great tragedy, however it was also foolish for the parents to let their 2 year old in the water at dusk-- prime eating time for gators. A two year old is about the right size for a gator to attack (frogs to chickens is about the size they eat). It is a tragedy but an accident, so Disney should not be liable.
