I spit up my water. Well done.
Realizing just how close DC is to the deep south, is halfway to understanding why it sucks.
Yes, because earth is flat
Yes, because earth is flat
If you are driving from from Houston to Florida, how many diapers do you need?
When doing the comparison you need to take into account the effect from the rotation of the earth.
He could take his time and drive slowly across TX, and speed from DC to FL. Definitely possible to make it true.
Houston to El Paso is 744 miles, 10 hrs something,
while DC to Tampa is 901 miles, 13 hours something.
Jax Beach from DC is more like 748 miles, 11 hrs.
Of course, you're much more likely to get caught in nightmare traffic on I-95S from Washington, which could slow you down by hours.
The greatest straight line distance across Texas is 801 miles, so that would be about 53 miles more than DC to Jax Beach.

It's easier to get idiots on the net to tell you the answer.
Houston traffic can be nightmarish but not as bad on I10 as 290 right now due to construction. Just don't leave Houston between 4pm and 7pm or 6am to 830am.
Speed limits past Austin are 80+ mph so you're rolling once you hit Kerrville.
Cell phone service can suck west of SA until EP.
That other drive you're talking about is easy.
D.C. to NYC not so much. It seems like everyone on i95 north of D.C. wants to go 42mph.

Now you know why it is referred to as "The great state of Texas."
LOL
In Alaska we joke about splitting this state in half, just to make Texas the third biggest state in the nation.

Too late. I have the eternal lease.
Here is Texas overlaid between DC and Florida for a visual comparison.
Is it though? Really?

It's pretty simple to input two locations into a mapping website and get the mileage and estimated driving time.
This above....
or you could do the logical thing and post your question on a running website message board.

My dad has gotten from Maryland to Orlando in 11/12 hours
I find that hard to believe because 11/12 of an hour is only 55 minutes.
You have to factor in the spinning of the Earth. Dc to Florida you're going perpendicular to the spin so no change. Crossing Texas depends which way you're going.

It's threads like this that makes this forum worthwhile. As for the rest . . . meh.
