It was a low key all comers track meet. There were 6 events and I was gonna try to race each one.
It got to 3k, the 5th event, and I was running out of steam. A pack of us took it out fairly easy but I was struggling. One of the guys in the pack had 5 kids that were going crazy for him each lap.
With 300 to go, I make my move and surge to the lead. All of a sudden the dad comes flying past me and I thought I was toast. His kids, wife, and others that probably new him were going INSANE cheering for him. But I dug deep and beat him over the final 100.
We congratulated each other and his 5 year old daughter walks up and says to him, "you did your best daddy." Eventually all his friends came over too
Now I feel terrible and am wondering if I was jerk for steeling the guys glory (especially since I beat him in the 1500 too)
