Yes. I'm the one always saying that. I just don't understand why people always think guys like Torrence or Leer or whoever can summon some magic beyond what they've ever shown they are capable of to qualify (with rounds) in these big championships. It is nice and optimistic, but it's pretend-landBen True will never again make an Olympic or WC team (xc not included)One thing that is important to note is that I really like True. He's an awesome guy and an incredible runner. I'm just a very objective person looking at facts, who will gladly watch my favorite team/athlete lose and enjoy it if it was a good game/match/race/etc. i like sport, i don't care who wins so long as it's honestit's not like the NBA where one guy can have a breakout game and score 50 against Lebron. It's more rooted to physical limitations. True will not suddenly find the physical gifts to be a sub 27:00 runner or be able to close like GAlen rupp (think 53 last 400m 2012 Oly's). i think he'd be the first to admit that

Aren't you the same guy who said that True would never make a world championship or Olympic team in the 5000m/10000m....after he had already made the world championship team in the 5000m?

Where do people get this stuff? Rupp isn't in peak form due to marathon training? Huh? Rupp is in fantastic shape right now, and until given any reason to think differently, I would bet every penny that I have that he will win the 10,000m at the OT.
Rather than just criticize, I'll also offer my predictions. I think the order will be Rupp, Jenkins, Mead.
Jenkins? Seriously? Those bread sticks, though.

I'll answer my question after googling... True ran 13:12 at Pre. Mead 13:04. Chelanga ran 13:46. Jenkins 27:48 and Derrick 28:48 (last).
The team should come down to Rupp, Mead, True, or Jenkins. I think any of them could beat Rupp since he's not in peak form due to marathon training. If I were True or Jenkins, I'd only run the 10k if the other person is not running. For instance, if I were Jenkins and I saw True was definitely running the 10k, I would rest for the 5k. I think the 10k will take too much out of those two right now.
Chelanga and Derrick probably aren't fit enough to hang in either the 10k or 5k.
Is lagat in the discussion for the team, he's got the standard in 5 and 10k
The guy who took down Usain Bolt could probably take down Rupp. If he shows up at US trials and gets position on rail Rupp could be in trouble.
Did he not run 13:18 a few years back then 3 weeks later run 26:48? He's probably in amazing shape. Prob sub 2730 if he gets pushed shouldn't kill him, but realistically who is pushing that fast in this crop of runners at trials. Prediction he runs the first 5k in 1410. Last in 1325.
Serious comments looking at actual races and closing.
Rupp only closed in 57 to win PDX in 13:20.
It was back in May, but Shadrack Kipchirchir out kicked David Torrence with a 54 for 13:18. Hasn't raced again and, presumably, may be fitter and faster.
Also, Leonard Korir outkicked Chelenag in the 5k at HOKA under 60, but Jenkins actually closed faster.
True races adidas 5k Friday. We will see where he is.
Rupp's performance, while dominant against a grab back of last-chancers in PDX, does not look that strong. It won't have to be a bad day for Rupp, but just a matter of specific fitness on his part versus a pretty good field of guys that are really really ready. None seeming more so than Mead.
This will be Rupp's most challenging OT. Mark it. The 10k is going to be tough!

You have no clue, rupp has had great training leading up to the trials. Ran an easy 13:20 , his close was not all out. Odds are his 10k shape is very very good now, in fact letting go of the 5k probably has made him even stronger in the 10k. No one in the US is close to him in a 10k.
With all of that marathon training under his belt, Rupp could be a beast in the 10K this year once he gets his track legs back. I think he has a shot at another Olympic medal in that event.
Galen is also running a 3K tomorrow night in Portland. That will give you a better indication of his fitness if you're concerned about it.
When you said tomorrow night, you actually meant next week Thursday.
Yep, you're right. It's Thursday the 23rd. Apparently I don't even know what day it is.
