You guys don't have to argue about this anymore
PER NCAA
College Best Jim Ryun - Kansas 1:44.3h 6/10/1966
800m Finals
1 Donavan Brazier FR Texas A&M 1:43.55
Besides the Collegiate record Brazier also bests Ryun's Junior record EXACTLY on the 50th anniversary of his record.

Well done..!

It makes absolutely no sense to just decide that it was 1:44.30 out of all the possibilities and only by running 1:44.29 does another collegiate take the record.
The only correct, logical, and 100% infallible statement is that he cannot have run 800m slower than 1:44.9 and so that stands as the record. The only recorded time.
The only reason someone would argue otherwise is because they like Jim Ryun and want him to hold the record.
The IAAF lists his 800m PB as 1:44.3 both on the all-time junior list and his individual page.

No, because Achon didn't hold the record. A clerical error caused by people with low level mentalities.
Cruz ran 1:41.77 a few months after winning NCAA. It's the University of Oregon record. He also won the Olympic 800m gold that same year.

Yes. Any other contention is wrong.
Why is Cruz not the record holder? After NCCAs doesn't count? Not a college race?
Oregon count it as their university record.

Duck U can count what ever the want to count as their school record.
Is there a word that describes self-answered questions?

Because he had graduated. High Schoolers don't have a place for their summer running times to count before college. After college you expected to go to work, or graduate school where any new records don't count.
Based on the logic of giving Ryun the 800m record based on an estimation, Bolt should be awarded the 100 yards world record. Also, what was Webb's 1500m estimated split in his 3:46 mile?

Sure they do, aren't most HS records like Webb's 3:53 set shortly after graduation?

You lost long ago. Ryun held the Collegiate, and American Junior 800m records with 1.44.3c.

Post-college times are not treated the same same as post-high school times.
Most HS records are set after graduation in meets were pros are running. Rarely does a high school runner win. Ryun's 3:55.3 was an exception; a win against the reigning Olympic champ.
'HELD' the record.key word.....HELDpast tense.Donovan Brazier HAS the record NOWi'm so tired of hearing all the Jim Ryun speculation, this Brazier kid made my week by proving, without a doubt, he's the best collegiate 800m runner (by time) ever.ps. I know Jim Ryun was an amazing runner. Never said he wasn't

No, Ryun holds the record.

if you were tired of it then you wouldn't have again on this thread.
1/10 for obvious trolling.
PS. Ryun held the record for 50 years, and it was a world record. Brazier didn't set a world record, and it is unlikely he will hold the record for 50 years.

Hey genius, check the date of the post you're responding to.
When I posted that message, Jim still held the record.
So no, I was right and you were wrong to try to correct me.
Oklahoma State's 5000 meter school record was set during an athlete's redshirt year, which tells us something about the standards and ethics of the program.
jsquire wrote:
The other complicating factor is that it was during Ryun's freshman year, and this was back when freshmen were not eligible. Would you count a record set during a redshirt year? If you say no, then it calls into question whether this should be the collegiate record.
