They said two possible olympic contenders have tested positive so apart from three male and three female marathoners it's G Dibaba, Haroye and Wude that haven't competed since March if we consider anyone in the 2015 list that had any chance whatsoever of making the team for Rio.
800m- Caster Semenya
1500m- Faith Kipyegon
5000m- Almaz Ayana
10000m- Turinesh Dibaba / Almaz Ayana
She's going to face really tough competition in any event, the "easiest" would probably be the 1500m for her, but we will see
I think if her injury is as bad as some are assuming, she might just pick the 1500m and not double, which in my opinion is smart, and let fellow countrywomen take the 5k/10k
Ayana needs to make a 10000m debut and get the standard.

Right now we know Kipyegon is capable of 3:56. Even for Dibaba, that's still a fast race. No, she's not the favorite.

Yes. She is gorgeous.
Also, she is world record holder. Faith looks good, but I really don't think she has a sub 3:53 in her. If Genzebe gets a few races in, I think she will win. She ran faster than has Faith has this season for 1500m in February, and that was indoors, AND she still had 109 meters to run after that split was taken. Dibaba really can't lose.
She can win the 5000m, too. She just can't get both. Yeah, Ayana has run 14:12, but remember, people: Genzebe ran a TACTICAL 14:15 last year. The WR is toast if she has a good shot at it with fresh legs.

No doubt this has something to do with a suspicious doping test which probably happened during her indoor races. The same thing for Ayanleh. Could be meldonium or other hard stuff. There is no way in the world that a simple toe nail could make her miss out for more than a month, not even racing low key meets. Since for legal reasons it takes time for IAAF to finally declare an athlete has failed a test due to the need to do a retest of B sample and an athlete given a chance to explain(appeal), the toe nail injury is just to buy time until the issue is resolved. Both Dibaba and Ayanleh will not be in Rio and we will not be informed of the reasons other than an "injury" until after the Olympics if ever they will be frank. IAAF and IOC is doing a lot to save face here and not kill the spirit for the games. Sifan Hassan's absence is also getting suspicious. Missing that Shanghai matchup with Faith Kipyegon is understood, but missing Eugene and Oslo, that is weird. She in fact should be very eager to race Kipyegon considering that Kipyegon beat her in their last two matchups last year. I hope I am wrong on this but the writing is already on the wall!
Next week the Diamond league series moves to Stockholm, Sifan Hassan's home turf and Genzebe was scheduled to chase the 1500m WR. If Sifan doesn't show up, then her goose is cooked.
Perhaps Driouch finally cooperated with the proper authorities, or the authorities actually listened to Haroun? Digging deeper into a usually hard to access camp perhaps led to some results that were less than ideal for two high profile athletes from the same stable. Perhaps it was just as simple as a loose cannon like Kaki becoming jealous, or even depressed that he was no longer king to let some untoward info out? Equally as possible, this could all just be two bad injuries. Does anyone have any specific info on Souileman's current racing situation?

Ethiopia has not hav any OOC program and WADA / IAAF called the program non-existent just this year. So it's hard to say that their runners need to be more sophisticated than others to not be caught and do well. I have no idea if the Dibbabas are clean or dirty. I think it's a shame that top track countries don't take doping seriously at all. As a result, I take intenstional track less seriously.

I agree with you. There was simply no Ethiopian testing program. If they were micro-dosing, they would probably not be caught in external competitions. There is a rumor in any case that at major meets they were not testing the obvious ones, the winner and contenders (for example, I think that Ingebrigtsen or Willis was claiming one of them was the only one tested in the men's 1500m at Monaco). We also know that there was very substantial bribery and negotiations going on not only within country federations like Kenya, but also with the IAAF. Geb and Bekele and other Ethiopians have had major European agents who would arrange for their drug programs, by reference to doctors like Wohlfahrt. Bottom line is that especially when it comes to major stars, we cannot trust the IAAF, WADA, or the Ethiopian and Kenyan federations.
Hassan's now of Dutch nationality, not Swedish. I would not be surprised if all of Simpson's faster competitors were doping. Now Faith Kipyegon showed absolutely incredible efficiency as a junior when she was destroying Mary Cain a few years ago, so I do not suspect her of cheating simply because she is an incredible talent. Not a 3:50 talent but 3:54-55 certainly and who knows if she could ever draft off Dibaba the whole way.

It would be so open to avoid suspicion. Coach Jama and the these athletes read letsrun.com message boards and would have come out by now to defend their themselves and their athletes and give a clarification. So far nothing from them, unless they are picking up from Alberto Salazar who has ignored accusations concerning his handling of the NOP group. Something is clearly amiss.
I am not here to defend Salazar but how can you say he ignored the accusations? He wrote a very long rebuttal with exhibits. You may not have found it convincing but he did address the issue. Anyway, it seems that a huge percentage of let's run threads end up with. Rupp / Salazar discussion so shame on me for responding.

Yes, we really don't know much about what has happened in the past but there are reasonsfor concern. At least now the issues are starting to be discussed in the open. Hopefully the sport gets to a better place in a decade. For now we can just watch and wonder what percentage of it is, and has been, doped.

Aden and any other coach is not obligated to respond to letsRun or any other media but as a public relations(for the fans' benefit), I think he ought to. As for Alberto Salazar, his rebuttal left more questions than answers. Its true, at least 70% of us out there are not convinced. He knows we are not the jury or the judge so he is not worried about his career or that of his athletes. Maybe Jama going the same route?
