RY (CHEATER) PROPAGANDA MACHINE IS TURNING AT FULL SPEED
*Andy Persson*
perssonfamily@gmail.com- Yeah, but his claims for his first three marathons are unbelievable. Meaning I couldn't do that and no one I know could. But lets say 99.999% of people couldn't but the 0.001%, by some evolutionary hiccup, do have that capability. That would mean in the UK 600 people could. Maybe one of them went out and found they had an unusual capacity for running and recovery and decided to just keep going for the rest of the year covering 373 marathons and ultras in that time.
Andy, I'll address the issue about his book since I've been the main one posting about that. I won't repeat what I've posted at length elsewhere in this long thread. Below are the links for anyone who wants to reread the issues about the book.
Regarding his claims of running his first 3 marathons ever in a 30-hour period of time and getting progressively FASTER (4:07, 3:28, 3:19):
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?board=1&id=7362520&thread=7355147#7362520And my response to CoachKev who disagreed with my post:
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?board=1&id=7367340&thread=7355147#7367340But as it turned out there were more problems to his claim in the book regarding his first 3 marathons once his mapmyrun data was discovered. It didn't match. The courses didn't match at all. The witnesses (Eva & Joanna) that allegedly observed these personal marathons could not have been positioned where he claims in the book. And his mapmyrun data clearly states his 4:07 was his "SECOND MARATHON IN A [DAY]," not his first. I explain that here:
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?board=1&id=7369345&thread=7355147#7369345Initially, it seemed that every time I fact-checked something RY claimed, it turned up distorted or exaggerated. Although when I rechecked his book regarding what I thought was a contradiction in his backstory about either being (1) a highly-competitive endurance athlete, or (2) couch potato to instant marathoner, I discovered that I had been too influenced my media articles that over-simplified his story. In his book, RY clearly states that his endurance fitness had lapsed for seven years (even though he downplays #1 in the book). I admitted that misunderstanding on my part here (but I don't know how many read that because things get quickly buried in this thread):
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?board=1&id=7375158&thread=7355147#7375158So in summary, as it still stands there are problems and issues reconciling his own mapmyrun data with his own claims in the book. And I do not buy the claim that he ran 4:07, 3:28, 3:19 in that order, on a whim, untrained, in a 30-hour period of time. That's not a rare, exceptional, superhuman thing that is possible as you argue. I don't think you could take an untrained Kalenjin kid in Kenya and pull off a 78-mile stunt like that getting progressively faster.
It is wrong to think RY has faked his entire running career and credentials. And it would be naive to assume everything is truthful as well. Neither position is helpful or productive. Too many on letsrun think everything is a fake. And too many of RY's supporters think everything is absolute truth (and usually based on anecdotal evidence, personality claims, or brief encounters). The truth, I think, is somewhere in the middle, which makes everything open to question until it can be verified.
I also agree with Laz: I wouldn't release any information to the lets run crowd either. After all the name calling and such: Let 'em stew.

As far as to whether or not Rob is telling the truth, how many people on this forum lie about their times? Is everyone who posts here running 14 and 15+ 5k times?
Do I have doubts about some of Rob's earlier times? Yep. My problem, not his.
You do realize he's claiming to be setting an all-time record and is not just a random e-statter on a message board, right?
If I say on a message board that I've run an 11 minute 5k, that's different than if I'm trying to get official recognition for a world record, don't you think? But I guess it's your problem if you don't believe my world record 5k, not mine.

I have no need to lie about my times as they are awful, I do embellish my achievements a little so I can try and attract sponsorship

not even trying

This folks is the new mentality.
So Robert, buddy ... it's all good man! Get that record any way you can. Claim whatever you need to along the way to get sponsors and donors. It's all good, man. If you lie or cheat, it's our problem, not yours!!!

HobbyJ wrote:It also appears that they've now changed their story and are using the new video to claim that Rob was well behind the RV when Asher first came up on them near Lebo later that night. Initially, the story (captured on the video explanation) was that RY had been running with the RV and jumped in when they were afraid that they were about to be assaulted by a knife-weilding yank. So which is it?
They also claim to have the phone number of the stranger and barmaid - what we have been asking Laz to get - to confirm the story. Yes, please do that!
Or...Just post the freaking data for the trip from Bannock to Laughlin.
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed this!
.
Not sure what you're referring to. The surveillance video and the Asher encounter were several hours apart. Have they said that Rob was well behind the RV again when the Asher encounter happened, which was several hours later than the video?
Their stories have changed and don't make any sense, but I didn't catch that change if they said it.

7) lost in all this was a truly inspired performance by RY today. (during my shift) he left Effingham at a painful walk, classic multiday deadlegs syndrome. he tried several times to launch one of those strings of fast miles that got him yesterday's total, but just could not get it going. he walked on into the start of serious heat. we had been doing the math, and it looked like he was dead meat. the only way he could get today's miles in was to start running, and his legs were shot.... then he somehow forced himself to run... and run....and run...until he managed to bail out his day, and have a chance to repeat the process tomorrow. rayk has a picture of RY during this stretch. I hope he can post it somewhere. it is worth a thousand words.
laz
Please forgive me for my overwhelming sense of schadenfreude upon reading this paragraph. I too would have felt admiration and sympathy while witnessing RY's "inspired" run today, if not for the fact that RY has claimed to have done much longer, much more difficult runs in extreme conditions earlier in his quest, yet claimed that he was feeling remarkably fresh after them.
This is the suffering that RY should have experienced had he actually completed the western portion of his run, but fraudulently avoided. By faking his run, he has made a mockery of all true endurance athletes.
I am not normally a cruel person, but I hope that RY continues to suffer every step of the way to NYC in the slim hope that he finally develops a sense of shame for what he has done.
