Most professionals feed off such external doubt. No? We would expect faster or at the very least similar times on flatlands of Kansas and Illinois
Some might buckle down. Most would likely ignore letsrun, especially given the stereotypical stance toward ultrarunning. Hard to believe, but outside the world of letsrun, not a lot of folks care that much about letsrun.
But the point is that, no, he probably wouldn't treat it like a knock on the head with a shovel and suddenly slow down because of the mental strain of letsrun people being mean to him.
