Honestly these clowns telling you not to change and to rock the full split running shorts are doing you a terrible disservice. Women (that aren't runners) care about style and how things look. It's not a "bad" thing, just different. They want you to match, to wear normal looking clothes, to behave normally. Now, most runners get comfortable wearing their go-to shorts, their old crappy smelly socks, their dirty t-shirts. And if you're training for a race, awesome. But the rest of the world cares about appearance and if you want someone to be attracted to you, appearance does matter, just as most of us aren't jumping for a hefty chick. We pretend appearance doesn't matter, but we'll turn around and tell people they need to work out or be in shape. Obviously it matters and if your girlfriend isn't a runner, you have to put some effort in. If she's a runner, she'll probably understand the high shorts and smell t-shirt.
