Huh, I would have bet $100 that it was his mom trailing him in a car during his runs.

Closest was when an old man yelled "get off my lawn."
In my late 20s, I won a road race, and a very attractive woman (another racer that day) grabbed my hand in the parking lot, said "take me" and started to lead me to her car. I said, "Can't" and pointed to my wedding ring. She said, "I won't tell". I said No and got out of there.
I was once running through South Philly in an 'up-and-coming-neighborhood' in the summer. One of those 90 degree and humid days so I was shirtless. I ran passed two busty black women coming out of a bar. The bigger of the two shouted, "MMMMMMmmmmm! You sexy mother f***er!" Shocked, I turned back to look, while still running on, to this she shouted, "Yeah, you lucky I cant run!" One of the more entertaining things Ive had shouted at me.

This never happened.

It happened. However, it was an attractive "woman".
When I was 25 and in shape a girl (probably 15 or 16) watched me jog by on the trail, shouted "you're skinny", and lifted her shirt - mmmmm, perky!! Psycho, but perky.
Many years later I was jogging along, and passed a slightly overweight woman. I turned around a while later and headed back home and went by her, this time facing each other, she said "you're a beautiful runner". I said thanks. If she hadn't been overweight I would have stopped and introduced myself.
That's all in over 30 years of running. I bet even modestly attractive women get it daily or more.
I have concluded that sexual harassment can be flattering if it's in a safe situation and in small doses.
I get some simple comments. Usually some variation of "hey sexy!", and one time "marry me!". Some of them are probably sarcasm over my short shorts, but you can tell a few are sincere. My favorite non-sexual compliment was a woman saying "you have a BEAUTIFUL stride!" as I ran past.
Like you OP, I have also cut mileage in half, picked up some weights, and gained 10+lbs post college. I can confirm that you do in fact get more positive reactions from females. The rate of smiles and eye contact when running around the path at the local college has increased dramatically. Xfit bro is right.
While running at 20 and again at 40(!) in two different college towns had a woman yell out of car window nice a**! But figured they were either drunk or crazy.
While doing a distance race on the trails a young woman at the aid station asked, "Want a drink? Want a date?"
Back when I was a young man of 40, living in Oakland, a youngish gal yelled "nice legs" at me.
These days, it'd more likely be, "Hey skeletor, that is a cool bald spot!"

INCORRECT!
I get "compliments" pretty frequently but they are pretty much all from overweight black women or gay dudes. Most recently was when I ran up to a stoplight where there was a group of women (I was running shirtless), and one of the women said to her friends, "I'm going with him".
I am not Brad Pitt or a movie star but when I was younger I had groups of girls say something before while I was running by.
I was once told " you have nice form" to which I was utterly confused

True story - brother in TX running shirtless got an "eat something" from a female. 5'10" 124lb at the time.
During the summer about 5 or 6 years ago when I was 60 years old, I was running shirtless (like I always do) along the Truckee River bike/running path between Tahoe City and Squaw Valley. A woman was riding her bike in the opposite direction. And just as she passed me, she smiled and said, "Thanks for the great view!" It pleasantly startled me. I continue to get compliments, catcalls, etc. where I live and run without a shirt. The temperature is 40F-70F all year long.

Probably has something to do with me going from 140 lbs @ 80-90 miles a week in college to 155 lbs @ 50 miles a week post college. Maybe cross fit guy is right?
My personal experience: it helps. Being genetically average, I'll take the attention over the emaciated, slightly faster, hobbyjogger times.
Running through a neighborhood during the Rockford marathon. I'm in short shorts and a girl yells "I like your shorts!" I respond by saying "Thank you" and am completely caught off guard when she says "No, thank you!"
There are several times when women have complimented/encouraged me when running (and a gay guy that was legit into me not messing with me)
1. I was running and a few college aged women honked in there car and waved (shirtless)
2. I was on a trail running (shirtless) and a few women and one guy were there walking around the women started cheering and said something like "good work you look great!" they looked like they were in there early 20s.
3. I run through a college campus a lot sometimes shirtless and there are a good amount of times (more than i want to name individually) that a female will smile and wave or something like that but it sort of depends how many people are around.
4. One fun story is I was walking back to my car after a run and a guy (who i assume is gay) drove by and seriously tried to start up a legit conversation he also complimented me on my body. I awkwardly told him i wasnt intrested and that was that.
Each of these times except for the gay dude were pretty pleasant however i would say i have been harassed at least 10+ times on my runs that i can think of off the top of my head, i have always just ignored it as it didint present a real threat.
over forty years of running, once had a drunk woman yell 'nice legs' .. never had a sober compliment ;-(
