Why are names kept secret?

Why do they announce numbers before names? What's the benefit to the sport?
Medalists have money. Medalists can hire attorneys. Attorneys can delay the process. Names are secret--supposed to be--until the process is complete.
I highly doubt it was Bolt if it only says medalist and not Olympic champ.
Bolt?! Hahah bro. Let's see - who is the least relevant athlete on that list - the one that can be named with the best "see we are cleaning up the sport" angle. Bolt is the Lance Armstrong of track and field - circa 2002-2003 - untouchable.

Bolt is on YAMS not PEDS

Then when retesting old samples, they should not make any announcements at all until the process is complete.
Why leak information that 31 people from Beijing have failed drug tests if the process is incomplete?
It makes the Olympics look even more bogus than it already is. Just wait until A sample and B sample have been tested.

Ding! Ding! Ding!
The top of the list would be a nearly retired/no-podium chance in 2016 athlete that isn't Bolt.
+1
In whose interest would it be to bust Bolt, and just before an Olympics?
A member of the 4x100 relay team? Magic 8 ball says "Signs point to yes"
I would say it's probably Frater or Carter, but it could be several other athletes because this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Jamaican doping in 2008. These recent positives are from the testing done at the Beijing Olympics, most athletes have cycled off of their dope long before a global competition. If it was just a piss test, most of these recent athletes would never have been caught. The fact that you can't dilute blood, combined with better detection is why these athletes are getting caught.
Jamaica did 0-zero OCC testing leading up to the Beijing Olympics, which allowed them to dope with impunity. The Jamaican's success in Beijing and improvement from 2007 to 2008 is a statistical anomaly to an incredible degree. For example, Melaine Walker in 2008 nearly equaled her 400m flat time going over the 400 hurdles; Shelly-Ann went from 11.31 PR in 2007 to 10.78 in 2008; Kerron Stewart went from 11.03 PR in 2007 to 10.80 in 2008; Sherone Simpson's best in 2007 was 11.43, in 2008 she ran 10.87. Bolt went from 10.03 PR in 2007 to 9.69 in 2008. I thought Brigitte Foster-Hylton had retired, I recall her running in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, yet in 2008, she runs 12.49 and wins the Olympic gold medal in her mid-30s. Brigitte's best time in 2007 was 12.71. There were about a dozen Jamaican athletes who made incredible improvements and had incredible success in 2008. In 2007 Veronica Campbell was the best 100m sprinter in the world. Veronica lives and trains in the U.S., she goes home to Jamaica for the Olympic trails and finishes 4th in the 100m and had to fight for a spot on the 4x4. FloJo is implicated in the court of public opinion as being dirty only because of her performances and year-to-year improvement. If you toss out FloJo's wind aided 10.49, Shelly-Ann and a couple other Jamaican's made pretty much the same improvements in one year.
With all of that said, athletes do have breakout seasons, but if anyone is naïve enough to believe that many athletes from the same nation can all have a breakout season in the same year...I'd like sell you some mountain top property in South Florida.
If you consider this strategically in terms of world federation thinking, it would be most likely to be 1) inconsequential and 2) involving someone who subsequently tested positive and was given a very lenient sentence. That covers a bunch of Jamaicans busted for a supplement a few years back and allowed to compete again after very little time. There is no evidence yet of any seriousness on the part of WADA, the IAAF, or the IOC to clean up this sport. And as pointed out, we get numbers but very few names and they purposely limit the damage even further by NOT testing samples gained through criminal inquiries like Operation Puerto (?), as well as dates affected by a nonsensical statute of limitations. Moreover, they lack the will to go back to the 1980s and strike from the books all the known Eastern European dopers.
Great post backed up with actual facts! Like it.
Don't let coach d see your post or he'll go on a tirade about how great Jamaican training is and how he is the only coach in America who has figured out how to copy the Jamaican "system."
Good post, but just a correction, Brigitte Foster-Hylton didn't win the 2008 olympics, (harper-nelson did); she won the 2009 championships after a period of hiatus

How much out of comp testing does Jamaica do now?
Yes , it's Nesta Carter ..good call
so the relay medals (and the records)will be stripped?
I really hope so
LMAO....Such pathetic people. This is a stimulant found in many contaminated supplements. Yet you compare it to actual doping from proven cheats like Gatlin or Gay. These guys just rat out and basically run their mouths and get lifetime bans reduced to nothing.
Pathetic and jealous. The thing wasn't even on the banned list and is 99.9999% just a mistake from a regular supplement he took. Get a life.
