This is a common fallacy. Yes the life expectancy from birth was 46, but that takes into account the much higher infant mortality rate. If you throw out all babies born in 1900 that died before age 5, the life expectancy goes way up, almost to where it is today.
on top of that, many of the lower class jobs were dangerous with high mortality rates (compared to this day and age). Rich people would live much more risk free than the average working man
