How?
I don't mean to be rude, but have you trained at a high level? Everyone in my training group (sprinters/hurdlers) in college puked or tried to puke after various workouts. For some it was hill workouts, for others speed endurance, for others working 400 pace. I now train for distance and have been dry-heaving after a few 5k pace workouts. As people above have stated, running a total of 3 miles at mile pace, or 1200 meters at 400m pace, or 8k at 5k pace, etc., albeit with rest, is very taxing, and without the adrenaline that comes into play on race day, makes the workout absolute hell.
