So where are the other 17 positives from? Do we just pretend its not a problem?

The was it was
1 Russia RusRUS Gold
Yevgeniya Polyakova • Aleksandra Fedoriva • Yuliya Gushchina • Yuliya Chermoshanskaya
2 Belgium BelBEL Silver
Olivia Borlée • Hanna Mariën • Élodie Ouédraogo • Kim Gevaert
3 Nigeria NgrNGR Bronze
Franca Idoko • Gloria Kemasuode • Halimat Ismaila • Damola Osayomi • Agnes Osazuwa
4 Brazil BraBRA
Rosemar Coelho Neto • Lucimar de Moura • Thaissa Presti • Rosangela Santos
1/ The 17 other positive can be from anywhere except Russia (done), UK, France, Australia and South Africa which federations have announced they did not receive any notification for positive re-tests.
2/ No we don't. The names will be released once the legal procedure is done (tests of B samples to be conducted in 1th of June, then sentence decision). The 14 russian names have leaked, they shouldn't have been known this early.
3/ (not intented to you) can people stop spamming the thread? If I want your opinion on Chicherova's physique I'll go to the local redneck's watering hole...
If I had to guess, I would say Belarus would be the first country to come to my mind: Devyatovskiy and Tsikhan (hammer) were tested positive just after the games for testosterone but they could keep their medals after an appeal to the CAS. Add to this that Belarus won a total of 5 medals in hammer and shot put in 2008, including Astapchuk (doping offence in 2012 olympic games) and I would be very surprised this country is not included in the 17 other positive cases.
Another one bites the dust...
Spain : Josephine Onyia
What's odd is that she was already serving a lifetime ban so doesn't match the "retested those that might be in Rio" rule ? Didn't medal either in Beijing.
Americans pretending how clean their track and field and professional sports in general are and thinking that they can fool everyone by saying how bad Russia is for doping in sport.

The hypocrisy and the double standards is getting rather nauseating, don't you think? You want the Russians to clean up their act and get punished, yet it's ok for US authorities to coverup positive tests and let people like Carl Lewis compete and win olympic and world championship medals while dirty?
Jesus Christ.
Anastasiya Kapachinskaya? How the fvck was she allowed to compete again?
In the 2003 Paris World Championships Kapachinskaya got the women's 200 meter silver medal, behind Kelli White of the US.
Kapachinskaya then won the 2004 World Indoors gold, but was busted for steroids and got a two year suspension.
Meanwhile Kelli White was busted for modafinil (a stimulant used to treat narcolepsy), and was stripped of the 2003 World Gold.
The IAAF had to hand the 2003 World Gold to Kapachinskaya while she was serving a 2 year ban for steroids.
If Kapachinskaya is busted for a second time she will get a life time ban and forfeit all results between the second test and now, which includes:
2008 Bejing Olympic silver, 4x400
2009 Berlin World bronze, 4x400
2010 Barcelona European gold, 4x400
2011 Daegu World bronze, 400
2011 Daegu World bronze, 4x400
2012 London Olympic silver, 4x400

Could be some sort of bureaucratic hiccup where she was considered by some corner of the system to still be an 'active' athlete because she never formally filed her retirement paperwork, what being banned and all.
She's got legs. She knows how to use them.

Does that mean her teammates also loose their medals?

The US may be bad but what about the UK? A federation intent on pumping their athletes full of thyroid hormones whenever they think it is necessary to improve performance. UK physicians documented as giving out illegal PEDs to various top level endurance athletes and soccer players. A woman marathon world record holder with a series of uncovered abnormal blood tests intent on blocking any sort of independant inquiry into the situation.
We know Russia, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Morocco are bad, but now the investigative spotlight needs to be turned onto the UK.
So the results of the London 2012 retesting are in :
- 265 samples restested
- 23 positives
- 5 countries and 6 sports
Who are the lucky winners this time ?
Oops we already have 2012 thread : http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=7322512
Saw this in my paper this morning. Apologies if this is redundant.
A total of 23 athletes from five sports tested positive for banned drugs in rechecks of 265 samples from the London 2012 Olympics, the International Olympic Committee said on Friday.
The IOC said the athletes were members of six different national Olympic Committees four years ago.
I'm not up to speed with this, but I think thought that the UK was pushing for thyroid medication to be banned?
