Whats the "bun-thing"?
Whats the "bun-thing"?
Pappas, 26, is a world-class runner, among the fastest seven or so American women in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters
A) No, she's not
B) Perfectly demonstrates the hypocrisy of casual national allegiance-switching. If she's a de facto American (where she was born, where she grew up, where she trains, where she primarily competes) to the point where she's considered "one of the fastest... American women" then she should not be competing for Greece in the Olympics.
Any mainstream coverage of running helps the sport, but would it really kill the NYT to have someone who actually knows the sport give the profile a quick proofread?

C) Track and Field made it to the NYTimes.
D) Let's self-destruct because most of us (read: Author: Not even top 7 in Oregon) are the WORST track promoters of this generation.
I really don't understand the level of hostility by the rabid few.
In 2015 Pappas had the 9th fastest time among US women in the 10,000m. In the current year she has the 4th fastest. She has run the Olympic standard within the qualifying window twice.
People in the film industry do a lot of self promotion and promotion about the things that they create. I really don't understand the negativity here. She has made a movie about track distance running. There will be real elite runners in the film. She is a distance runner herself and knows the subject. If you don't like that, the movie will also include comedic actors from SNL and "The Office."
Put yourself in Alexi's shoes . . . You make a movie - you're going to promote it. Make a movie about Track & Field that comes out near the time of the Olympics? Yeah, you are going use the interest in the upcoming Olympics as a promotion vehicle too. Have an Olympic standard and are maybe just outside a "guaranteed" qualifying spot on your country's team? You might consider using your dual citizenship to qualify for another country's team.
She's made a movie, she's run Olympic standard qualifying times, she writes regular magazine articles, young women follow her and look up to her because of her achievements and inspiring words . . . she has earned her publicity . . . and her right to compete.
