Honestly I'm pretty happy for him, it's kind of awesome. But I have spoken to a few who are not fans of this.

You boy needs to start doing beer miles... that's where the money is...

I don't get it... he's getting paid for doing something he enjoys. What's bad about it, exactly?
You think Nick Symmonds is mad because he didn't get the record and lost out on a HUGE payday?
Yes it does, I am not sure why but it does, The whole beer mile was kind of funny at first but now I think it is just a distraction from the real sport and probably belittles the athletes who are serious. You don't see a "beer bowl" or the "world beer series" even though frankly most actual rec baseball leagues are actual beer leagues.
What's his sober PR?

The whole $10,000 USATF is giving out for making the Olympic team belittles serious athletes. Al Salazar is "very serious" when he uses exogenous T on kids.
Sounds like you need to go where the money is, BEER MILE.
his time is impressive.you've got to hand it to him4 beers (30 seconds drinking), 4:17 mile (64.x per 400m)surely the record can get below 4:30 though....

USAT&F giver milers 10 grand for OGs Brooks gives 100 grand to chug beers!
This might be him. 4:29 mile, 2:00 800 for Western Ontario. He's Canadian right?

"Not fans of this"? And what, pray tell, do they think of 8-figure deals routinely thrown at other professional athletes. Or are they just a bunch of jealous haters who've never won anything other than a gift certificate to Applebee's, and they think all runners should be dweebs like themselves, striving for glory among their weekend warrior friends in the next Turkey Trot where a 15-pound Butterball is bestowed upon the victor.

???
There was a whole series of them. 8 of them in fact.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bud_BowlIt rubs any loser with an inferiority complex the wrong way when someone gets six figs. Then these same people try to play it cool and ask for money from the bo$$. Jellies gonna jelly, yo. Anyone who's been getting money for a while doesn't know how to hate. It's good to see this young bo$$ achieving monetary greatne$$. Well deserved.
Most people pulling in six figures are doing something equally meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
I'm really surprised Lewis isn't a faster runner though.

How much does any sport pay people to make a team? NBA players? Zero? It's not USATF's job, so it's nice that they do it.
Beer is served in pints, this is the "tiny thimble of ale mile"
