Yesterday ending a tempo run with a 4:59

1 and 1/2 hours ago.
Yesterday I split 5:50, 5:50, 5:38 (I think) in a tempo for about 17:56 for 5k. Hit 6:17 for the last mile today but not quite there.
Last week.
With out sounding to elitest(I'm just a sub elite). My last sub 6 would have been on Saturday when I done 3 by 10 minutes with 3 mins recovery jog shuffle plod in between, on soft grass. I was doing sub 6 minute miles in that workout. I ran a staggering 1.77 miles for my last 10 minute segment, which makes 6 minute miles feel easy. This Monday I done 5 by 5 minutes with 90 seconds recovery shuffle in between. I was averaging 0.87 miles for the 5 minutes, so didn't quiet literally do sub 6 miles(would have if I run for extra 0.13 miles on each rep. Was on soft grass again(bumpy in places)(in darkness to(just after sun set(which makes it more harder.). I think I could do sub 6 pace for a marathon if I wanted, but I'll wait a few more years and eventually do a sub 2:30.
The under 6 mile is starting to slip away from me. Last year I ran two Miles, one on the road one on the track. Ran 5:38 and 5:55. At the rate I'm slowing down I will probably be able to stay under 6 for another year or two but no longer. 56 years old.

You are one quick lady.
Still not sure that is sub-elite, though. More like locally competitive.
43 year old male. Just ran an indoor open race a few weeks ago and ran 4:59.9. This was my first track since 1997. I was running 4:02 1500m back then, though.
Oh, wait, I ran a park run a week after that and my last mile was exactly 6 minutes. But that wasn't sub 6, so I guess the track race was my last actual sub 6.
Yesterday.
I try to get a few 6-minute pace or faster miles into at least a few of my normal runs each week. I think that, along with doing some shorter intervals periodically throughout the year, has kept me strong and quick as I've gotten a little older.
Some days I'll run at 6:40s or 6:50s pace before going down to 6:00 for the last couple miles of an 8-10 mile easy day. Just makes me feel better when it's done as opposed to keeping the same easy/slow cadence and rhythm the whole time.
The Obvious Answer, why are you calling me a women? I'm a fast boy. I'm glad you didn't call me a hobby jogger so that's good. I am locally competitive but will get faster. My dream is 2:25 marathon. I tend to do bad at short distances. Ironically sometimes my pace on shorter stuff is almost the same as longer stuff, so I think a good marathon is possible. A fantasy of mine is crossing the finish line and winning a race, with rojo and wejo holding both end's of the tape on the finish line. I think about them a lot when I'm on my runs. When I am struggling I imagine I'm Bekele, and it makes me stronger.
5:18 Last mile of a 44 minute 10k. It was literally straight down a mountain.
Coincidentally, that was the exact same time as my road mile the summer before when I was 50.
My last sub-6 was in October 2008, at the Kent State Bowman Cup 5k (5:58 for the first mile).
I was able to crank out consistent 6:40s though two summers ago (June-Aug. 2019) during 4x1600m training for my first marathon. I think doing 2-4 1600m with adequate rest really helped my stamina during the actual marathon.
I'm a slow-twitch runner so lack speed but have good endurance.
This am..
