Great run, definitely confirms his 1:48. But 48 does not equate to Michael Granvilles 1:46. Many sub 1:50 guys easily have that kind of speed.
Just imagine Webb running 47 and then 8:4X in HS. Shows how great his range was.

I'm no expert, but it looks like maybe only the guy in lane 6 didn't just stand up out of the blocks ... they just using them to look cool?
No, if you run track in a flyover state, about 1/10 coaches actually knows how to teach kids to come out of blocks. See some pretty bad stuff lol.

sorry, but this is simply WRONG. 48 open 400m speed is NOT something that most sub 1:50 guys have.........ive trained with a few and can tell you that 48 quarter speed is fast for any mid distance runner...... this was an open 400m and he didnt even come out of blocks. nick symmonds is a 1:42 runner...... with a 400m pb of what 47 high?
Very impressive. Most of the top NCAA milers would not be able to do this and plenty of world class milers would struggle to run 48.5. This guy is the most talented US hs miler since Webb. He is a sub 3:50 miler in the making. Great to see a pure miler running 400m and 800m.
I still disagree. Almost every sub 1:50 800m I've ever known, can run 48, at least. I can't imagine any 1:48 800m guy NOT being able to run 48. I'm sure there a a few, but not many.
So Michaels 400m run was great, but I believe it's right on for a 1:48 guy.
generous "48.X" relay splits do not = a 48.5 open 400m runner.

I didn't say anything about generous splits. Both 1:48 HS runners I knew were 47 guys. Let me put it this way. I've never known a sub 1:50 guy to NOT be able to run a 48. I've trained with many, many sub 1:50 guys.
maybe tell me someone you know who runs sub 1;50 and can't run 48
I just looked at the conversion tables, they almost all equate a 1:48 with 48 or faster
You think Drew Hunter could break 50.00 out of the blocks? I'm betting 50 high

Well I'm one. Didn't get close to 48 but broke 1:50.

But could any break 4 in the mile the week before? 1:46 is coming.

Agreed. I ran with a 1:51 guy in HS, small school division, who had run 48.8, open, as a Soph. Two college team mates, one 1:49 the other 1:50 were solid 48 high for the open 400m. Besides sub-4 milers stepping down, I would guess most sub-1:49 guys can run in the 48s for the open 400m.

1:46.0
Honestly, I don't even think that this is a very bold prediction. Just indicative of his ability. Truly a special youngster. Very exciting stuff!
I don't think that's bold at all. I was a,huge fan of Ritz and Hall during their junior years. I feel that Slagowski upside is even better than either of them. Love his running style, he just gets after it and doesn't let up. I wouldn't blink if we were to see him run sub 3:50 against college competion, although I fear he leaves it on the track in January.
Comparisons to Ryun and Cram are justified.
Do you mean sub 3:50 in a few years?
1:46 low is a fair prediction for this year based on his 48.5 and 3:59.5.
very unusual. Were you a good miler?

But none of them sub 4 for the mile.

I'm also a big fan, but are you really saying his upside is higher than that of a 12:56/3x Oympian and one of the best American marathoners ever? Damn.
Is the fear of him leaving it on the track in January mostly to do with the jersey he'll be wearing?

Heel striking the whole way.
Yea, some "runner" this Slagowski guy is! What a lame performance. I can only run 53 but I'm sure glad I don't heel strike!

I was decent, nothing special, 4:05. Ran 1:49 low.
48 is very fast for a middle distance runner. It is not necessary to have that much speed to break 1:50 unless you are aerobically very weak.
If you say that you need 48.5 to run 1:50 that gives a ratio of ~2.27.
If you look at that ratio compared to elite 800 guys you will see that is way off.
Quick examples:
Rudisha 1:40.9 ÷ 2.27 = 44.4 -- very unlikely (pb 45.5)
Coe 1:41.7 ÷ 2.27 = 44.8 -- no chance

?
That's what I'm saying.
If he gets in a hovered race I think 3:52 to 3:54 is possible this year. His season is just beginning.
I think that's pretty goooood..I mean I don't know
Granville ran faster in the 800m when he was a jr. I think 1:47 high and had a faster 400m time. I don't see Slagowski running much faster than 1:48.
