Anyone see this race? Mary Cain runs 2:08 800m in Oregon

Both Cain and Hasay have been done for a long time, could LR please quit obsessing with them now.

Surprised by Hasay's slow time especially considering her recent 10k success. Was it all out? Neglecting speedwork or past her prime?

Hasay has never really had the leg speed. Also, she seems like one who runs better in workouts than in actual races.

Hasay ran the 1500 as well. Not sure which came first but for a 10k running doubling with a 4:16 and 2:11 isn't bad at more of a low key meet. I would imagine the NOP crew was there to treat the races as a workout.

I also wouldn't get worked up about Cain in the 800 when it was won in 2:05. Clearly not an all out effort for Moser who doubled as well. Maybe a bit concerning that she wasn't closer to Moser and that was the only race she ran. Still just a workout.

Hasay seemed OK with the effort.

Didn't realize she was basically out for a year with injuries.

I don't like her chances for making 10K at Olympics, but anything is possible. Even a second or 2 faster a lap; in the 10K is massive.

All three NOPers (Cain, Hasay, Moser) were scheduled to double 800/1500, so it was likely a workout/time trial situation. However, Cain scratched in the 1500 after running the 2:08. She really didn't look good in the 800.

As a guy who spent a good 4-5 years of my running career in the 4:10-4:20 1500 range, I can tell you that I would never be satisfied with a 2:11 800, regardless of how soon it came to the 1500.

The only exception would be if I split like 70/61 in the 800 and won the race.

The funniest article I've read all week is the LRC weekly wrapup urging some perspective on Mary Cain's performances.

By observing her workouts and races.

I don't like postin negative things, but that's like a 145 guy who was an Olympic hopeful running a 155. I hope she gets it turned around, but I have a feeling it may not come back for her.

It is common for young pro runners to struggle a bit during proms season.

As a guy you should have never been satisfied running 4:10 a 1500.

Hasay is a 10k runner coming back from injuries, not a mid-distance runner racing a double. This was a workout, you have no idea what the objective of this double was.

I can help you stumble though the maze of this technology and show you video of Hasay doing workouts that indicate sub 2 ability. or close to that.

1) What kind of track meet runs the 800 before the 1500?

2) On no planet does a sub-32 10k runner (RECENT sub 32 I would add) running 2:11 make any sense. This entire race makes zero sense at all.

Hasay's obviously pretty close to back with her sub 32 10k and obviously Salazar wants her to practice faster stuff for the Trials, where it is likely that the difference between making and missing the team will be ability to have a strong drive to the finish the last mile or two--she ran an 800 (slowly but she's never run a fast one) and a 1500--not too bad for her in recent years.

Mary Cain we should leave alone until she has that magic again, in which case it will be immediately obvious.
