LCSC is the worst 4 year school in Idaho. Virtually no admission standards, which is about the only reason they are good. They recruit foreigners and then the talented Idaho guys too dumb to get into the other schools. Mike Collins runs a shit program. Huge rates of attrition, and guys that run fast for a year before spending the rest of their careers frustrated and hurt (Jimmy Oribo, Pauric McLaughlin, Cody Larson, Dave Marks, among others). What Atkins has done well is not get ruined by him.
Did you know that the last 5 years, the LCSC men's XC national team has consisted of a total of 4 foreign runners and the women's XC team has had 1 foreign runner in that time?
Did you know that the aforementioned LCSC runners spent multiple years in the program developing before their "one fast year" that conveniently occurred near the end of their college running careers?
