I actually was attacked for at least 30 minutes by a Peregrine falcon while climbing without a rope on a 2000-foot vertical rock wall. The thing was small but incredibly motivated, fanatic really. There was no nest, it was during the fall migration. I think it sensed how precarious my situation was and saw a chance to make sport of it. I escaped by crawling into a giant crevice (chimney) where it could no longer see me.
I had the shakes for a while after that one. To this day i get a little shudder when i hear their piercing call (I still climb large cliffs where they frequent).
