The data for the sub-17 5k makes no sense to me. The fastest pace on the 5k seems to be 6:15, whereas the average is listed as 5:21. Calories seem off too for such an effort.

Additionnally a sub-17 5k runner should be well below the 3 hour mark.

I'd like to see the names of the cheaters too.

Yes, it isn't a very good claim. A sub-17 5k runner should be running in the low to mid 2:40s.

My 5k pr is 15:34, marathon pr is 3:27.

The word "should" does not mean "absolute". However, if you're a 15:34 5k runner and you have only run a 3:27 marathon, there is something really off, especially if you raced the marathon to your potential.

What difference does it make if Derek outs this cheat or if Runners World ran an article publishing the same conclusion?

Marathon Investigation is part of the Running Media just as much as Runners World is. People are creating their own media, brands and reputations.

Less people will cheat if they know the consequences are far worse than the reward.

Turn the pressure up on these cheats.

from what I've seen Derek has been wrong (he "outed" an actor in a movie) because he doesn't take the time to research before he posts his things. He is so intent on getting the names out there he doesn't stop or didn't stop to think.

Even drug cheat get more due process than Derek's targets.

And agan, who appointed Derek as the watchdog or consumer affairs for all the running coaches out there.

He's doing way more than than. He's doing way more than offering his opinion.

Here's an idea.

What if Derek partnered with Athlinks and obtained the names of all that earn entry into Boston. In the interim, he can flag those that run far slower than their BQ since the time of their qualifier and try to prevent these people from running Boston in the first place? Sure some won't get caught until after the fact, and many won't always run as good as their BQ but the obvious cheats that have no race results that show that ability and miss Rossi mats will always be detectable.

Lots of possibilities there.

You are so naive. So has the fact that we have Drug test, reduce cheating in the sport. People just get smarter about it.

Now that people know Derek's methods, they will just get smarter about it. So in some respect he isn't really improving anything.
