Are all you people talking about how amazing Lagat's kick is time travelers from the year 2011?

Are we so sure he's even going to do the 10,000 at the Trials?
He's going for the 1500 title at the trialz. That 10k was just some base work
yes he definitely could
nothing is ever given
but he is the beat of the rest ......
and as everyone is going to attempt yo dethrone the Mochine he could be in the right place to pull the surprise and medal !!!
Who cares about EPO Lagat. We forgetting how he tested positive back in the days.....and ran 3:26 when no EPO test were around...
No he did not teat positive !!!!!
his A was tested and a possible positive was present , which calleds for the B to be tested.
but do you so called experts not understand that it is not a positive UNLESS it is confirmed in the B sample !!!!
he was cleared via no positive B sample , which is tested more thoroughly than the A sample is!!!
leaving his A as a false positive which happens a LOT !!!!
he could do it
he is amazing!!!
He'd get dropped once the surges start. No way.
Karoki and Kam aren't going to run a Bernard Lagat - friendly pace.
Tanui will likely take less of a role in pacesetting as he's a good kicker.
Rupp kicked in 53 for his silver. He hasn't showed that finishing speed since, but this is the Olympics. He'll so some sprinting with Mo, if he's smart.
Whatever the pace, Rupp will be there when the pace is bumped up for medals. Can Lagat hang with that? We'll see.
Also, another year has gone by - who will emerge in the Olympic year, hungry for a medal?
And then, Mo.
I have a hard time seeing Lagat on the stand. However, not impossible.
Lagat- nope too old and slow
Rupp- will get dropped with 5k to go ,maybe gets 5th or 6th
Farah- will struggle after 5k but still gets bronze
Kam warrior gets it done with 2 team mates and gets gold
Kejelcha gets second passing the 2 sacrificial Kenyans while holding off Farah
I actually think Lagat's greatest triumph this year would be if he beat Rupp at Rupp's preferred distance at the US Trials. He's pretty much owned Rupp and it would be a real bitter pill for Rupp to swallow to lose to a 41-year-old. If the pace was slow till the last couple laps it could happen.
At the Olympics, no. Farah and a bunch of Kenyans/Ethiopians will run the last k in 2:20 and Lagat wouldn't be able to kick off that.
this
Rupp with 2 fifth place finishes as world's last year, and 26:44 in 2014 is going to be owned by Lagat?
Not in this dimension. OK so I like Rupp's chances. I see him in the mix on the last lap. I don't see Lagat there.
Trials? Again, I don't see Lagat getting it done on the last lap? Remember the end of the slow USA 5000 last year? Where was Lagat?
Lagat medaling in Rio is a ridiculous question. No question he's an amazing runner at age 41, but everyone that has posted that he has a chance seems to think he has a chance to be a runner he hasn't been for the last 5 years.
A better question is would he have a better chance making the USA team for Rio in the 5,000 or 10,000. As of today, the following USA athletes have the standard for the Olympics:
5000 (13:25)
Ben True
Ryan Hill
Eric Jenkins
Galen Rupp
Hassan Mead
Bernard Lagat
Garret Heath
Diego Estrada
Will Geoghegan
Riley Masters
Chris Derrick
Jeff See
Lopez Lomong
10000 (28:00)
Galen Rupp
Diego Estrada
Hassan Mead
Ben True
Jason Witt
Parker Stinson
Christo Landry
Bobby Curtis
Jake Riley
Jonathan Grey
Bernard Lagat
Shadrack Kipchirchir
Ben True isn't likely to run the 10,000 and perhaps Rupp will just focus on the marathon, so I'd say the 10,000 is Lagat's best chance.

No. Even if the race goes 27:20, it will be a hard 27:20 with surges, hot weather, and a last mile in 4:10. No way Lagat can hang with guys who are in 26:45 shape. No. Just no.
Cmon' Ray, you have to root for the old guy. It's going to be 14:05 first 5K before the surges and we know that Kip can float with the surges. I say 13:00 for 4800 leading to a flourishing finish and a Bronze in 27:42! (rhymes with our friend Franz)
Not if he's very satisfied with running a 27:49 with a 58 last lap. Ex: in London the winning time was 27:30 (19 seconds faster) with a 53 last lap (5 seconds faster than Lagat's last lap). I think he could definitely run a lot faster given that the pace was slipping throughout the race and has plenty of time to sharpen up his speed, but I'd call it a hard enough process in itself to even make the US team in the first place with Rupp, True, Mead, Kipchirchir, Chelanga (he wrecked him at Payton, but who knows what'll happen in July) and others to worry about.
Alas, no.
Lagat will easily win the trials.
Everyone always forgets about Torrence. He has the standard and would own Lagat in the 5k as well.
Just posted this in the other Payton Jordan thread with analysis of all distance races (

). For what it's worth...

Agreed. Crazy talented guy. I understand he was very sick last year before Nationals and missed a month from mid-Jan this year with a calf problem. I hear from guys in Tucson that he got a lot of confidence from running 7:41 indoor Nationals just two weeks back from calf. They say he's in real good shape, could have run 27:20 comfortably in Stanford if needed. If that's the case I'm not betting against him.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
