This is a prime example of why the US can't do better than they are in mid-distances. There's lots of strong talent like this kid, but they get ground down and poorly coached in college. If this guy has a dream of running in the Olympics or being pro, start planning for that now. Which means Penn State is no place for this talent.
Gosh, if only there were a school known for not ruining distance and mid-distance kids; for knowing how to peak them without over-training them.
A school with a climate and program suited to Slagowski's talents. A school with a long list of sub-4 miles; perhaps even the most of any college in the land.
A school with a hallowed track venue. A school that hosts one of the best Diamond League meets in the world every year... With plenty of natural surface trails.
