When you hit your 50s, things change. Nagging injuries piling up, constipation, loss of fine motor skills. Fortunately he has his many children and grandchildren to look after him.

It's probably overtraining due to too many hard intervals and races. Apparently they had him running when he was injured.

I am amazed that Drew Hunter has done as well as he has. He certainly must be over raced. I do know that they had him run a 4 minute mile with a cold. Stupid.

But unless you are there you do not know for sure.

I've actually been amazed at how long Ches has went without injury. It happens to everybody.

The correct part of the statement above is only the last part. Ches does not race very much till championship season, (Hunter races even less and does not belong in this topic at all) - and even fewer all out efforts . Powell has shown he know how to handle elite athletes, so until proven otherwise deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Saw him out on a long run on Sunday... can't be that bad.

Have you ever been to PA? They say all sorts of strange things over there. I've actually heard this sentence from a PA resident, a well educated PA resident: "Why would you do that for?" I asked him why he phrased it like that and he said that's how everyone around him talks.

It's not a big deal that he isn't racing. He's clearly not at the top of his game right now and would probably get trashed by an elite 1500m field. I've never understood why he doesn't ever race against pros in the 5k/10k, but that's another topic.

If Oregon knows how to do anything, it's get people ready for Championship races. He'll be fine. Based on his performances at indoor Nats, he could take two months off from running and still win the 10k and 5k.

Agreed that the Oregon coaches deserve the benefit of the doubt until the situation is more clear.

Especially agreed that people from PA don't speak English.

But the few comments so far have somehow missed the elephant in the room. Why guess about overtraining or too many hard intervals? If indeed he is injured, it almost certainly can be traced back to, or at least has its roots in, the way they ran him into the ground at indoor NCAAs.

Someone with more time than I have, take a shot at calculating how many tight 200 meter track turns he ran at racing speed to complete that triple.

Yeah I dont think "I seen it" instead of "I saw it" is a PA phrase, I think that's just an "I'm uneducated and do not use proper grammar phrase". The only people I've ever heard that talk like that are usually not very intelligent/educated.

Yes, because this is how Oregon gets people ready for champiobships races, once they hit a good performance just taper for 2 months before the next champiobships, this makes perfect sense

Do you honestly think Chez can take 2 months off and still beat McGorty/Knight/Kincaid in the 5k?
