Who?
“First, runners come in all shapes and sizes,†he says. “You don’t have to be a scrawny little punk to be a top distance runner, if you have the determination and work your hardest

He's been retired since 2011.
Chris Solinsky would have broken 26:40 and 12:50 if it wasn't for his dog.
two good thoughts from the article:
“First, runners come in all shapes and sizes,†he says. “You don’t have to be a scrawny little punk to be a top distance runner, if you have the determination and work your hardest.
“Second, I hope I’m remembered for not having fear. At the 2008 trials I didn’t want to just make the team, but to win. I came up 100 meters short, but not having a fear of failure helped me to get the successes I had.â€
Of course he will most be remembered for breaking 27, but I like these two things.

American records at 5000m and 10000m, a bunch of NCAA titles, 2 Footlocker titles, and all you can dwell on is one random race where he fell?
Thought he retired several years ago. Seriously when was the last time he raced? Did he have some contractual agreement with Nike to keep up appearances? Not trying to pull a rojo and ask stupid questions, this just seems weird.
He ran a few road races this fall.

Actually that is unsurprising.
his own motivation is what stopped him. he pushed himself too hard and wore his body out
also amazing, I didn't realize he ran 7:37 the last 3k of that 5k against Lagat. That's incredible!
